The Supervisor of Child Support directly supervises the activities of the Child Support unit to ensure that the practices of the unit are accomplished pursuant to Federal and State Statutes. This involves the interpretation and implementation of federal and state laws, rules, regulations, manuals, and the development and interpretation of county policies and procedures. Reviews the performance of the unit based on county, state, and federal standards. The Supervisor ensures the financial stability through enforcement of child support for Minnesota’s families by coordinating and supervising employees working in the unit; interpreting rules and regulations, establishing and evaluating policies, and coordinating unit activities with other units, service areas, other county departments, and outside agencies as applicable. It is imperative that this position maximize incentive potentials which affect agencies as applicable. It is imperative that this position maximize incentive potentials which affect the amount of the county levy and ensures the collection of child support is accomplished which improves the economic status of children and lessens dependence on public assistance programs.
Examples of Duties
- Develops, monitors, and analyzes Unit performance in compliance with State, Federal, and County mandates.
- Supervises and oversees the staff, work and services of the Child Support unit; assures adherence to federal and state mandates, work standards, best practices and county policies.
- Fosters effective local and regional/state relations and participates in planning and implementing local and regional/state projects and initiatives (pilot programs, etc).
- Assists the Director in establishing cooperative agreements with County Attorney, County Administration, and other agencies as needed.
- Monitors service contracts and maintains professional relationships with community providers.
- Acts as security administrator for multiple state systems. Determines appropriate security role and requests access for staff within unit.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
The job requires a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, paralegal, business administration, public administration, or related field, and two years of experience as a Child Support Officer/Collections Officer or equivalent; OR Four years of experience as a Child Support Officer or related work involving collection of child support; OR Four years of experience in collection work in a loan company, bank, or credit union, one year of which includes supervisory responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous county supervisory experience.

UNION: Exempt, Non-union- Grade 13
HOURS: Full-time hours equal 40 hours per week. Business hours 8:00a.m – 4: 30p.m,
Monday -Friday.
