Framatome is seeking a Supervisor, Engineering – BWR Fuel Mechanical Product Development and Testing for our Horn Rapids Road office in Richland, Washington.
In the Fuel Design team, it is our passion and commitment to design and deliver the most competitive, safe, and reliable fuel solutions for the worldwide nuclear industry. We are responsible for the design and implementation of fuel assembly (including our robust HTP fuel, and our newest products ATRIUM 11 and GAIA), development and implementation of advanced codes and methods, and development of accident tolerant fuel and advanced fuel management products.
The Framatome Fuel Design team is currently seeking a group leader for the BWR Fuel Mechanical Product Development and Testing Team at our Richland, Washington location. This team maintains the bill of materials and associated technical design definition documents for BWR Fuel, manages design changes with understanding of design bases, interfaces with and supports external suppliers, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines, and performs basic mechanical design evaluations. The team also operates a fuel test facility with capabilities for performing both mechanical and flow tests.
This role will oversee the BWR Fuel Mechanical Product Development and Testing team and be responsible for a number of items, including:
- Plan, schedule, organize, and direct the work of the individuals in the group
- Making work assignments for group members
- Supervise workflow to ensure deliverables are safe, high quality, on time, and within budget
- Ensure working level compliance with procedures, standards, and design control process
- Ensure application of the Product, Materials, Codes & Methods strategies in their group
- Providing technical oversight of group work products, facilitating resolution of technical issues
- Reporting progress, identifying impediments and issues up to management
- Mediating and driving to resolution of any personnel issues
- Monitor goals, objectives, and standards of performance for assigned team members
- Performing personnel reviews
- Facilitating professional growth of group members
- Interviewing potential new hires, making recommendations relative to hiring
- Work on special projects, as directed
- Facilitating the interface between groups within the company to complete customer projects
- Support Fuels proposal efforts, including coordination of multi-disciplinary work scopes
Travel: Occasional/sporadic
Required Experience
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:
- BS in Mechanical Eng’g/Eng’g Tech. plus a minimum of 7 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MBA/MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1- 3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of 4 yr eng’g degree. Framatome LSS Black Belt certification preferred

- Prior experience as a Supervisor or higher level of Management dealing with engineering disciplines and products
- Experience in leading and developing others
- Understanding aspects of licensing as it applies to engineering methodologies
- Experience with cross functional and cross discipline teams
- Good time management and prioritization skills under pressure
- Knowledge of design development and design change control procedures
- Knowledge of raw material/component manufacturing and qualification processes
- Engineering experience in the nuclear industry and familiarity with required engineering quality and controls in this industry
- Customer focus and demonstrated ability to be effective with customers
- Experience in Lean product/process development and design, and in manufacturing
- French and/or German language skills
Our total rewards package
The range of base salary for the position is between $116,000 – $158,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
