Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is a 104-bed not-for-profit hospital located in Grass Valley California. The hospital has been providing compassionate quality health care to residents and visitors of western Nevada County since 1958. Responsibilities
Under indirect supervision the incumbent is accountable for assisting management with coordinating the overall operation of the department to ensure that the optimal schedules, staffing levels and payroll outcomes are in effect and are based upon census, acuity and budget. Incumbent is also responsible for assisting management with ensuring sound financial oversight of operations. The incumbent incorporates differences into the provision of care and integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families with an awareness of cost containment and time management. In addition the incumbent trains, evaluates and supervises staff in carrying out department policies and procedures. The position reports to the Manager Ground Ambulance. Positions reporting to this position are EMTs and Paramedics.
1.1 Participates in selection, training, and evaluation of subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with Human Resources policy and organizational philosophy
1.2 Participates in development and maintenance of department policies and protocols. Understands, communicates and enforces hospital policies and regulatory requirements
1.3 Participates in the orientation of personnel. Provides educational resources and serves as the resource person. Mentors staff and plans and implements shift report
1.4 Assists management in the development of the department operating budget and maintaining necessary controls to assure compliance with budgeted expenses, resources and staff productivity
1.5 Actively advocates for patient rights and identifies potential conflict. Serves as a resource person for resolution of conflict within the department
1.6 Ensures Paramedic standards and practice are developed and met and conducts yearly skills competencies for all staff
1.7 Supervises the day to day activity of the department, ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to, patient concerns are addressed, and all areas are staffed appropriately
1.8 Delegates patient care activities to other health care team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments as appropriate. Ensures the daily work flow of the department meets system needs
1.9 Participates in the supply management of the department ensuring that adequate supplies and medications are available as needed
1.10 Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines. Uses an integrated approach toward patient outcomes
1.11 Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops
1.12 Monitors and evaluates performance of staff which includes identifying clinical and behavioral deficiencies of staff members and discussing problem performance areas with staff immediately to promote improvement
1.13 Knowledgeable in and schedules routine maintenance of all EMS vehicles.
1.14 Performs QA/QI on 100% daily run reports and provides feedback to provider for areas of improvement and recognizes exceptional performance
1.15 Responds to 911 calls for service as expected in the SSM plan
1.16 Participates in developing staffing performance standards for the department and monitors staff performance to ensure compliance with these standards
1.17 Assists leadership in addressing and helping to resolve unit issues including problem resolution related to employee/patient/customer complaints, concerns and suggestions
1.18 Performs other related duties as assigned or requested in a professional manner
Qualifications
REQUIRES:
- 3 years experience with active full time EMS provider
- AA Degree in a related field or a combination of education and experience
- Current California Paramedic or NREMT equivalent
- SSV EMS Accreditation
- BLSCPR, ACLS, PALS
- Current clean CA Drivers License with Ambulance endorsement
- Current DMV Physical
- Verbal and written communication skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required.
PREFERS:
- Ability to work through various software applications associated with ambulance daily work flow
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Leadership experience preferred
