Supervisor, Juror’s Office (Special Operations)

Summary

This position works in the Jurors’ Office of the Special Operations Division at the District of Columbia Courts, providing supervision and management of office operations in compliance with the Superior Court Jury Plan, applicable provisions of U.S. Code and D.C. Code, court rules, and court, division, and Jurors’ Office business processes, policies, and standard operating procedures.

Duties

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the overall management of the office to carry out its objectives and goals. Ensures that juror enrollment, orientation, and the management of petit and grand jurors selected for jury service complies with established performance standards and business processes. Maintains confidential information and attendance records on all jurors consistent with court policy. Ensures accuracy of juror payments, resolving problems and complaints on a timely basis.
  • Ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act by providing reasonable accommodations, such as sign language interpreters for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing jurors and materials for hearing and sign augmentation.
  • Monitors and certifies time and attendance in the electronic time and attendance management system. Evaluates and makes determinations on leave requests ensuring operational needs are met.
  • Responsible for the collaborative performance management process by developing and implementing performance plans and evaluations; rewarding and coaching staff; documenting performance and addressing performance issues in a timely manner; and issuing corrective actions as warranted in accordance with court policy and division procedures and standards.
  • Monitors facilities to ensure juror comfort. Makes recommendations regarding instruments, physical equipment, recreational tools, and environment needed to achieve maximum juror comfort level.
  • Monitors and analyzes the jury management system and other applications to ensure accurate functionality, troubleshoot issues, validate statistical reports, identify systems gaps, and recommend systems modifications.
  • Maintains best practices, current business processes, and standard operating procedures for efficient processing and effective customer service.
  • Investigates and respond orally and/or in writing to inquiries and complaints from judicial officers and staff, other court personnel, partner agencies, attorneys, jurors, and the public.
  • Builds, leads, or participates in project teams to accomplish objectives, new initiatives, programmatic enhancements, and/or operational improvements.
  • Evaluates policies, procedures, and practices and make recommendations for improvement and new initiatives.
  • Responsible for the timely submission of reports including but not limited to budget, workload, narratives, statistical, highlights, management action plans, personnel action reports, and data requests

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma plus eight (8) years of administrative or clerical experience in a court, government agency or legal environment, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Preferred: Two or more years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Graduation from the Courts’ Management Training Program may substitute for one (1) year of supervisory experience (You must provide documentation of your management training (i.e. copy of certificate) with your application).

Education Substitution:

  • Associate’s degree plus six (6) years of administrative or clerical experience in a court, government agency, or legal environment, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus four (4) years of administrative or clerical experience in a court, government agency, or legal environment, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Master’s degree plus three (3) years of administrative or clerical experience in a court, government agency or legal environment, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 4 years of administrative experience which includes 2 years of computer experience in a Windows environment
• 2 years of supervisory experience of which the successful completion of the Courts’ Management Training Program may count as one (1) year

    Sick Leave is used for personal medical needs, care of a family member, or adoption related purposes. Full-time employees earn four (4) hours of sick leave biweekly. This leave can be accrued without limit.

    In addition to the federal health plans, the DC Courts offer employees supplemental vision and dental plans as well as commuter transit benefit subsidy, for a maximum of $150 a month. There are 26 pay periods in the year.
