Summary: Travis Credit Union’s (TCU) Mortgage Underwriting management team is responsible for ensuring the successful management of residential mortgage underwriting and closure for TCU’s members. By ensuring that TCU’s Mortgage Underwriting program meets regulatory compliance, this team ensures risk mitigation for TCU while meeting member needs and mortgage demands.

Profile:

  • Motivates staff to meet and/or exceed loan production and member service goals in support of organization objectives and member needs.
  • Leads, trains, evaluates, coaches, professionally develops and motivates staff to attain department goals. Sets and monitors performance goals. Promotes a work environment that encourages involvement, initiative and teamwork. Builds career development paths for assigned staff.
  • Ensures maximum quality underwriting of residential mortgages.
  • Accountable for the resolution of member service and loan issues.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of all loan products, procedures, systems, regulations, etc. to ensure compliance with TCU policies as well as regulatory agency requirements. Stays current in industry trends and best practices.
  • Responsible for improvements to department processes and procedures as needed.
  • Ensures in-depth real estate projects are completed within required timeframes.
  • Responsible for content development and implementation of training courses and oversees curriculum so it remains current and meets the ongoing needs of the underwriting staff.
  • Engages with cross-functional collaboration to ensure priorities are met while managing pipeline production.
  • Responsible for department annual budgets and operational efficiencies.

Skills:

  • Proven success in managing teams, inclusive of employee evaluations and development, including interviews and culture compatibility.
  • Successful in ensuring staff are trained on Conventional, First and Second loan originations plus Fannie Mae, FHA & VA policies, procedures and guidelines, and that respective underwriting designations are successfully obtained.
  • Proven success in setting & monitoring effective performance goals for both employees and department.
  • Ability to work independently and motivate staff to achieve goals.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to successfully tailor communications according to the audience.
  • Effective, professional verbal and written communication skills. Including the ability to prepare and effectively facilitate presentations.
  • Proven ability to recognize customer needs, match them to loan programs and product requirements, and meet Service Level Agreement objectives.

Reporting and Experience:

  • Reports directly to the Manager, Mortgage Underwriting.
  • Direct supervisory responsibilities for assigned department staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial or customer service or related role.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory/management position.

Compensation: Base salary starting range: $ 82,441.84 – $101,838.80 is commensurate with experience.
