Supervisor, Service Maintenance

The Department of Sustainability Initiatives at Georgia State University is looking for a Supervisor, Service Maintenance to join our team.

Working with partners across campus and beyond, Sustainability Initiatives serves as a hub to create and communicate innovative solutions to our most pressing global challenges. We act as the catalyst for creating a culture of sustainability at Georgia State through enhancing living-learning laboratory opportunities on campus, exploring techniques to lower our resource use and costs, and empowering our students to become global leaders in sustainability.

Under the working title Recycling Supervisor, this position is responsible for developing programs and policies dedicated to improving recycling and waste diversion efforts for the university. The coordinators focus will include education and outreach, implementation of improved bin infrastructure & labeling, and back-of-house operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in recycling and waste reduction.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage daily operations of the recycling team, including scheduling, oversight, train and on-board new hires.
  • Participate in performance evaluations of the recycling team.
  • Work part-time in the field and part-time in an office setting, delegate and tracking work orders. Organize work assignments, respond to recycling queries, and order supplies as needed.
  • Keep the Recycling Center neat and organized.
  • Develops and oversees centralized recycling program across all campuses.
  • Execute the recycling strategy outlined by GSU’s Material Management Plan.
  • Provide education and outreach on recycling best practices for the campus community, must be able to interface with staff at all levels about the GSU recycling program.
  • Track waste diversion data and provide monthly and annual reports on impact of recycling program.
  • Assist in organizing recycling-related events, such as Earth Week activities, recycling drives, and RecycleMania.
  • Cross-train for other positions and/or responsibilities within the department in order to provide both back-up for the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates degree and three years supervisory/management experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Must have experience with source-separated recycling programs.
  • Must have driver’s license.
  • CDL license, truck driving and forklift experience are preferred.
  • Advanced MS Office experience.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Physical requirements: extended standing, walking, ability to bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in all temperature conditions.
  • Flexible schedule to include occasional nights and weekends.
