About the role:

We are currently seeking a Longwall Production Foreman to join our Information Longwall Mining Team at our Twentymile Mine location. The Annual Salary Range for this position is between $95,000 and $115,000 depending on experience.

Reporting to the Longwall Manager. The scope of your role will be to supervise all section activities under the direction of the Shift Superintendent Longwall Manager to produce the planned amount of coal within each shift. This role offers a great opportunity for growth and to expand knowledge and skills.

Duties will include:

  • Supervises the work activities of employees in his work area, daily organization and assignment of personnel and equipment to affect the most efficient and cost-effective operation of the mine.
  • Prepares daily section production reports
  • Accounts for and maintains employee timecards, ensuring proper codes are submitted to payroll. Monitors absenteeism and employee attendance. Staggers employee vacation schedules to minimize impact on operations.
  • Completes Incident Report Forms for all incidents reported to him/her.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and hazard free working environment, by conducting weekly safety meetings, and training personnel on the safe and correct way to operate machines and tools.
  • Assures that activities under his supervision are consistent with company policy and that a safe working environment exists and that the crew is complying with MSHA regulations.
  • Ensures that the section is left clean.
  • Perform Pre-shift/On-shift inspections looking for safety and/or environmental hazards. Takes the necessary steps to correct any hazards that are discovered.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Shift Foreman, LW Manager or Mine Manager.
  • Notifies payroll/human resources of changes in employee status such as schedule modifications, crew changes, changes in personal information (address, birth, marriage, etc.)
  • Train crew members to improve skill levels and expand equipment diversity.

About you:

  • Must be self-motivated
  • Possess a high level of interpersonal and communication skills
  • 4-6 years varied underground experience, 3-6 years underground service in production
  • First Aid training, EMT Certification preferred
  • Prior mining equipment and mechanical background is preferred.
  • Respirable Dust Pump class preferred
  • Understands basic mine rescue procedures.
  • Knowledge of all underground mining equipment, ventilation plans, roof control plans, production techniques, preventative maintenance programs and a thorough working knowledge of the Mine Safety Health Act.
  • Computer literate including knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office.Must be self-motivated

Physical requirements:

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise up to 80 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift.
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination.
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, heat, cold, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
  • NOTE: This is a “safety sensitive role”. Individuals in safety sensitive roles cannot have:
    • an uncontrolled condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or ability to control a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • an uncontrolled respiratory or cardiac dysfunction likely to interfere with the ability to operate a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • a current clinical diagnosis of high blood pressure likely to interfere with ability to operate a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • a current or unregulated mental or psychiatric disorder likely to interfere with ability to drive a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • impaired hearing (with or without hearing aids) that would prevent the person from hearing crucial safety information or alarms;
    • impaired vision. Individuals must meet the minimum vison requirements of at least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) with or without correction and at least 70° field of vision in horizontal meridian measured.
