Position Description
As an Employment Counsel, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:
- Provide legal counsel on a variety of matters including, employment, trade secrets, and workers’ compensation claims
- Draft, review, research, and provide counsel related to legal documents on a variety of employment matters
- Advise and assist personnel and management teams on a wide range of labor and employment issues, including compliance, risk management, and workplace investigations
- Offer expert guidance on areas specifically relevant to Human Resources, such as leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) compliance, disputes, and policy development
- Provide training and support to Human Relations and other business functions on a wide range of legal and compliance issues
- Research employment issues and new or pending federal and state legislation
- Proactively identify and recommend solutions for legal risks
- Supervise and collaborate with external legal counsel on employment-related disputes
Position Requirements
This position requires the following skills and attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school, with strong academic and professional credentials
- Admission to the California Bar or eligibility to register as in-house counsel with the California Bar
- At least four years of in-house or large firm California employment law experience, including handling and resolving disputes, discrimination and harassment claims, wage and hour claims, and wrongful termination claims
- Thorough understanding of California and United States labor and employment laws and regulations
- Strong work ethic, analytical skills, self-starter, responsible, detail-oriented, and well-organized
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively advise Human Resources, leadership, and senior management
- Work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with team members and external partners at all levels
- High ethical standards and the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism in all matters
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal cases, including evaluating risks and making sound decisions
- Effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while working well under pressure
- Inquisitive nature with a keen desire to learn about our business and to help find innovative and creative solutions as we grow
Benefits
The base compensation range for this role is $110000 – $150000 / year for the position in California. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries in California based on the date of this job posting.
