ABOUT THE POSITION
The Support Service Worker II (SuSWII) in the Employment and Training Branch Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Advocacy Team assists disabled clients who have a physical and/or mental health condition(s) expected to last 12 months or more that prevents the client from engaging in substantial, gainful employment. The SuSWII assists disabled clients through the process of applying for SSI or Social Security Disability (SSDI) and/or the appeal process, with the goal of obtaining an SSI/SSDI approval for benefits.
This SuSWII is responsible for assessing clients’ eligibility for programs based on age, disability, and other program criteria, accurately complete forms with high attention to detail, to read and understand multi-part application questions and appropriately assess when more information is needed, to organize information and documents in format specified by agency, and to write narrative summaries related to client’s functioning, impairments, and physical and mental health conditions.
The SuSWII supports the client with the gathering of required information and data needed to support a successful SSI/SSDI application. Obtaining material that includes employment and medical records, from outside agencies, and other sources. The SuSWII must use appropriate computer systems to gather information, enter and retrieve data, complete, and process a variety of forms, write narratives, correspondence, and reports, and maintain and update client records.
The SuSWII is responsible for effectively discharging their work with clients and maintaining case records in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The SuSWII may also provide program presentations to other County Departments and Community-Based Organizations.
This fixed term position is initially funded up to June 30th, 2025. Please note, this position may end prior to June 30th, 2025 if funding ceases or the work is complete. In addition, these positions may continue after June 30th, 2025 if funding is renewed or extended. Per PMR 48.2, fixed term employees are not subject to Reduction in Force rights at the completion of the term.
Health and Human Services has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. An option to telework up to three days per week and work the remaining days onsite in San Rafael, CA is available; however, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. While onboarding and training, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule.

The candidate will be comfortable using computer databases and applications and approaching their work in an organized, methodical way guided by policy and procedure.

The position also requires knowledge of effective time management and organizational techniques.
