This position is only open to Current Career/Career Conditional Employees of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in the Competitive service.; and Commissioned Corp Officers. PHS Commissioned Corps (CC) Officers will be referred as CC personnel and not as a candidate for conversion to a permanent federal appointment.
Duties
As a Support Services Specialist your major duties and responsibilities include:
- Serving as the primary resource for all matters relating to patient transportation.
- Planning, managing, and directing the dispatching, maintenance, and repair of NHDP’s leased vehicle fleet.
- Making independent decisions regarding replacement of vehicles.
- Consulting with the HRSA property manager regarding inventory status and fund balances.
- Providing consultation to senior staff of services available for the organization.
- Determining the needs and level of services required for each organizational unit.
- Serving as a primary resource for all matters relating to mail distribution, and shipping and receiving including U.S. Postal Services, private mail carriers and freight carrier’s receipt, routing, dispatch and control of packages, mail, and all other printed communications.

You will be required to lift and carry items of supplies and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds and may require handling items weighing over fifty pounds.

OPM INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SUPPORT SERVICES ADMINSTRATION SERIES, 0342:
Applicants may meet the minimum qualifications for this grade based on one of the three (3) methods below:
1. EXPERIENCE: GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression that demonstrated knowledge of the methods and procedures for providing or performing a variety of functions and services applicable to the position to be filled; ability to plan, organize, and control work involving diverse activities; ability to gain cooperation and coordinate the work of others; and skill in oral and written communications.
Your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of the minimum qualifying specialized experience that is comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-6 level in the federal service.
Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-6 level include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:
- Performing a variety of routine administration services for an office, such as preparing and processing routine documents related inventory, mail management, transportation, etc.
2. Graduate Education: One full academic year of graduate-level education is creditable for GS-7 in a major field of study such as public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields related to the position to be filled.
3. Equivalent combination of education and experience are also qualifying for grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
