Description

SCHEDULER POSITION OVERVIEW:

Work closely with physicians, scheduling their patient’s surgeries and follow up appointments. Coordinates and communicates with patients, providers, and hospital facilities. Confirm referral is on file and gathers insurance authorization/pre-certification approvals from health plan or primary care physician office. Document patient calls via electronic medical record. Financial responsibilities include but are not limited to collection of any monies due at the time of service. Caring for our patients and ensuring they have accurate information for their surgery and a seamless experience from start to end.

SCHEDULER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Contact insurance carriers to verify patient’s insurance eligibility, benefits and requirements.
  • Communicate with patients via phone and return voicemail promptly.
  • Request, track and obtain pre-authorization from insurance carriers within time allotted for medical services.
  • Request, follow up and secure prior-authorizations prior to services being performed.
  • Schedule patients for surgery, completing appropriate facility paperwork.
  • Schedule patients for any required diagnostic tests prior to surgery (for example MRI, CT).
  • Review patient medications and health history to determine pre-admission testing.
  • Schedule appropriate medical and other clearances.
  • Schedule patient for follow-up appointments and tests.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of medical terminology, high proficiency of general medical office procedures including HIPAA regulations.
  • Communicate any insurance changes or trends among team.
  • Maintains a level of productivity suitable for the department.
  • Clearly document all communications and contacts with providers and personnel in standardized documentation requirements, including proper format.
  • Other duties as assigned.

$ 18 – 23 Per hour

Requirements

SCHEDULER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Education: High school diploma.
  • 1+ year insurance verification and/or prior authorization experience required.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Requires effective customer relations and good communication skills.
  • Requires good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and ability to problem solve.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Enjoys working independently (responsible for your own tasks and managing your own workflow)
  • Enjoys working with a team doing similar tasks, providing support for each other
  • Basic understanding of CPT codes a plus
  • Medical terminology a plus

SCHEDULER WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Typical business office environment
  • Constant viewing of computer monitor, mousing and typing
  • Frequent standing, walking and sitting
  • Occasional stooping, lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling 10 pounds or more
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Hours of business are Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Flexible shifts available within this time frame.
