Job Description

The City of Raleigh is seeking a qualified candidate to join the Engineering Services department devoted to providing paraprofessional engineering support, inspection and professional civil engineering for a variety of public works and environmental functions and projects. Incumbents provide the first level of engineering support work, performing semi-skilled and skilled technical tasks that support an assigned function, staff or programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate survey equipment effectively and efficiently to collect and/or utilize survey data for construction layout, boundary surveys and, topographic surveys.
- Input data collected in the field using specialized codes and software with confidence and precision.
- Maintain precision survey equipment at the highest state of readiness and cleanliness.
- Take precise measurements; marking construction layout with accuracy and precision with the use of survey hubs/nails; writing up and setting of survey stakes in a neat and orderly way.
- Prepare and stock the crew truck including the equipment/materials to be used for the day.
- Assist with the download/upload of survey data onto survey data collectors; assist with processing, analyzing and, editing of field data on a computer.
- Assume the duties and responsibilities of the crew chief as required.
Position Specific Responsibilities Might Include:
Positions assigned to Stormwater may be responsible for:
- Coordinating the stormwater volunteer program and NPDES stream sampling program;
- Assisting with storm water education and outreach activities.
Positions assigned to Surveying may be responsible for:
- Preparing sites and updating boundary lines;
- Operating specialized equipment and taking measurements.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience related to assignment.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
