Survey Research Associate

OVERVIEW

Consumer Reports has a robust and rigorous national survey program that tracks American consumers’ attitudes, perceptions and behaviors over time. Our national surveys use gold standard research methodology to produce data that is representative of the US adult population.

In a typical year, CR invites roughly 4 million of our members to participate in our online

surveys, and gathers reliability and satisfaction data in up to 40 different product and service categories.

As a Survey Researcher on the team you’ll report to the Associate Director, Research. You’ll collaborate with internal stakeholders on the development and execution of survey research projects and analyze findings which are then shared in our content, social media posts, and Advocacy work.

Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position and is eligible for remote work up to 80% of the time. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of one of our main office locations (Yonkers, NY, Washington DC, Colchester CT). This position is not eligble for sponsorship.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

Our survey program is committed to understanding and measuring the full range of experiences and issues faced by US consumers. We use those insights to inform our content and testing, shape advocacy efforts, and develop products and services that best meet the needs of today’s consumers.

In this position you will:

  • Design multi-platform survey questions
  • Clean survey data and perform statistical procedures using software packages (e.g., SAS) to develop ratings and calculate product reliability scores for a wide variety of consumer products and services
  • Write reports of the survey results that provide a compelling and cohesive narrative paired with impactful graphic illustrations for editorial departments, advocacy group, data intelligence, and product testing departments
  • Publish Survey ratings and product reliability scores on Consumerreports.org
  • Review CR print and online publications, TV scripts, white papers, press releases, and other external-facing documents for accuracy and to ensure proper use of survey results

ABOUT YOU

You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have the education. You’re a graduate with a degree in social sciences. If you have a Phd, more points.
  • You have the experience. Your experience includes proficiency in survey design with five or more years’ experience with quantitative research methodology in an academic or business setting.
  • You love to analyze. You have worked with data-oriented computer software like SAS or R; are proficient in multivariate data analysis and know your way around a spreadsheet.
  • You can approach a challenge from many perspectives, understanding the different quantitative and qualitative methodologies and when to use each.
  • You can speak to what you’ve learned. Your secret sauce is providing detailed and high-level summaries of empirical findings to varied audiences (both technical and layman audiences).

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $79k to $90k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
