Primary Responsibilities

The primary duty of the Resources Business Group (RBG) Sustainability & Resiliency Lead will be refining and overseeing the implementation of a Resources market-sector (Power, Industrial, Waste) focused sustainability and resiliency plan within the RBG. This position reports to the RBG Advisory Services Director. The selected individual will work in close partnership with HDR’s Enterprise-Wide Sustainability & Resiliency Cross Sector Director, and partner with other HDR Sustainability and Resiliency Business Group leads to coordinate activities. These coordinated efforts will focus on cross-business group sustainability and resiliency goals that have been identified by HDR’s Executive Management team. This includes implementation of the key focus areas – resiliency, climate, health & wellness, decarbonization, and the support of sustainable and resilient designs.

The RBG Sustainability and Resiliency Lead will work to define a RBG Sustainability and Resiliency plan that identifies priorities and actions required to elevate HDR’s technical excellence in sustainability and resiliency; address methods to raise the company’s market penetration in this area; and identify key project opportunities. The Lead will work with internal market sector leaders, RBG technical staff and clients to integrate sustainable and resilient solutions for our clients and projects. The Lead will also be expected to meet with clients, present at conferences, and develop white papers or other written material to discuss the value of incorporating sustainability and resiliency solutions into projects as well as sustainability frameworks for organizations. The Lead will also serve as the project or task manager on select projects and will maintain a project workload to expand knowledge and credentials as a sustainability and resiliency leader.

More specific duties include:

  • Project and Program Support Responsibilities – This position will serve as a technical focal point for the RBG to deliver sustainability and resiliency services to our clients and to create alliances within the RBG. This position will work closely with other technical Business Class Directors, Regional RBG Directors, Market Sector Directors and Client Managers to ensure the technical resources and tools are available to fulfill long-term growth goals while maintaining high quality deliverables. Additionally, other duties include technical support, quality oversight, program audits, recruiting and staff development, best practice development, project leadership, and principal-level program/project management.
  • Marketing and Business Development – As a cross sector service, the RBG Sustainability and Resiliency Lead will support other Market Sector Directors in developing and implementing their strategic visions to support sustainability and resiliency initiatives. Further, this cross sector will develop its own strategic and tactical plans to address market opportunities and help to drive the business into geographies and service areas that are most appropriate to strengthen our overall program. Additional duties include supporting internal and external client relationships. This position also supports select project capture planning efforts, pre-proposal discussions and/or meetings, and proposal preparation and coordination with technical and marketing staff, presentations, and negotiations when appropriate.

Location and Travel

The geographic location of this position is non-specific; however, a location where established HDR presence is required. There is a minimum of 30% (annual basis) travel associated with this role.

Utilization

The billable utilization goal for this position is 60% for 2023. The remaining 40% of available time will be filled by activities associated with developing the sustainability ad resiliency program including business development, internal coordination, planning and other activities. RBG S&R Lead is a seller-doer role and as the size of the program increases, billable utilizations will generally tend to move downward.

Qualifications

This position requires the following skills, attributes and experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in science, policy, planning, engineering or economics. Other certifications such as Envision, INVEST (experience) and/or LEED accreditation(s) are desired but not required and may be obtained after starting in the position.
  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration or relevant Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years with practical sustainability and/or resiliency program application experience and industry leadership highly preferred.
  • Experienced in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and specific program and/or project pursuits.
  • Experienced with industry associations and maintaining a visible profile in the Resources markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with client managers, technical directors, business group directors and operations professionals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and an attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

The expected compensation range depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.

The expected compensation range for this position in Washington is $124,754.00 – $215,740.00 annually.

The expected compensation range for this position in Colorado is $131,320.00 – $206,360.00 annually.

The expected compensation range for this position in California is $144,000.00 – $243,880.00 annually.

The expected compensation range for this position in New York is $164,150.00 – $234,500.00
