PREPARES is an initiative of the Catholic Bishops of Washington State and creates the capacity within every Catholic parish to assist pregnant women, fathers, and their families by walking with them on the journey from pregnancy to their child’s fifth birthday.
Position Description
The PREPARES SW Area Coordinator will be responsible for the development, maintenance and ongoing support of a network consisting of Catholic parishes, volunteers, and approved partners, for the purpose of supporting pregnant and parenting women, families and their children. The PREPARES SW Area Coordinator will serve the Southwestern region of Western Washington. The Area Coordinator will prioritize the growth of ministries serving Spanish-speaking communities with focused volunteer recruitment from those communities, and will continue the support and growth of PREPARES ministries at all parishes in the SW region.
Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach efforts with Catholic parish leadership and parishioners and Catholic organizations and other community partners in order to develop active participation in the PREPARES program.
- Develop strategies necessary to recruit volunteers to provide mentoring, parent support groups, urgent need drives and other services for PREPARES program participants.
- Ensure that all Prepares volunteers are appropriately screened, trained and monitored.
- Generate, organize and manage program documentation.
- Deliver monthly reports as well as other requested data.
- Attend PREPARES trainings and meetings.
- Performs related functions necessary to support the Mission of the PREPARES Program.
General Responsibilities
- Submit timesheets and mileage reimbursement on schedule.
- Attend trainings required of employees and staff and supervisory meetings as scheduled.
- Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services.
- Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Familiarity with and ability to work within the structure and culture of the Catholic Church.
- Ability to communicate with diverse audiences such as priests, parishioners, and families with young children.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other Area Coordinators as part of regional and statewide mission of PREPARES.
- Be willing to facilitate large groups.
- Word processing skills and solid experience working with Windows, particularly Outlook. Excel and Word programs including drafting and formatting professional spreadsheets and documents. Ability to learn new computer skills as needed.
- Ability to manage confidential information.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
- Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
- Provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination.
- Criminal history background checks are required prior to employment.
Preferred Qualications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Theological Studies.
- Bilingual Spanish/English.
- Knowledge of services for pregnant and parenting families, homeless individuals, and resources for low-income people.
