The Business Line Compliance Advisory function assists in supporting internal stakeholders regarding a broad range of compliance and regulatory issues and works hand-in-hand with business partners to advise on compliance matters and interpret rules.

This Compliance Advisory Vice President will work closely with derivatives sales and trading business partners to advise on compliance matters impacting the business and, in consultation with the Legal department, interpret and assess the impact of applicable rules. Advisory also partners with other groups within the Compliance Department to support execution of the broader compliance program/framework.

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $137,000 and $178,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compliance advice and support for business initiatives, new product proposals, and changes to current business activities.
  • Participate in business line project and initiative meetings, and provide subject matter expertise surrounding business-specific compliance related topics.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on rules and regulations impacting activities of covered business lines and identify and help mitigate compliance issues.
  • Identify and assess compliance related risks and work with business areas to mitigate and control such risks.
  • Assist in the development, review, and updating of compliance policies and procedures to help ensure regulatory obligations.
  • Provide guidance and support surrounding business and product specific regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in developing and delivering business line training content to meet regulatory and business requirements.

Qualifications

  • A solid foundation in laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to U.S. swap dealers, including Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act, associated CFTC regulations, and NFA rules.
  • Understanding of swaps and other derivative products.
  • Ability to successfully interact with sales and trading groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and build consensus among stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and provide clear guidance in time sensitive situations.
  • Attention to detail and discipline to follow up on issues until resolved.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Well organized with project management skills.
  • At least 5-7 years of swap dealer compliance experience (advisory/regulatory). Additional relevant professional experiences will also be considered.
  • BA/BS required.
