NEW SY23.24 District Affairs Manager
SUMMARY
This will be a multi-faceted position to provide enhanced multi-media communications with various entities for the purposes of improved perception, support, and the overall increase in positive public relations. This includes interacting with local media, producing and sending out press releases, and managing the district’s social media accounts. Additionally, this position will oversee, identify, and write grants and collaborate on grant applications with various district departments and community organizations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Education, Communication, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience in social media and/or digital marketing.
- Experience in managing budgets related to the educational field including federal, state, and Indian Nation grants. Experience also includes an understanding of guidelines, compliance, and documentation.
- Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training, or education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with videography and video editing
- Excellent writing skills, good spelling, and grammar
- Previous experience in public education and/or public information settings.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently orally and in writing.
- Proficient in digital media (including web content management) social media and media relations.
- Proficient in the use of mass notification tools.
- Experience with electronic publication design and production.
- Demonstrated strategic communication planning skills and team-building experience.
- Ability to travel to district-sponsor events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Exercises proactive leadership and exhibits support in promoting the District’s vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
- Develops innovative communication and marketing strategies to promote the goals and initiatives of Baboquivari Unified School District to internal and external constituencies.
- Assists in the development and implementation of communication approaches for strategic initiatives.
- Develops, produces, and disseminates innovative written and electronic communication for internal and external audiences.
- Ensures the support of all schools and departments in the development of effective communication plans with the community and parents.
- Collects, compiles, or develops information needed by the Superintendent, Governing Board, school sites, the media, or the public.
- Looks for and develops positive story ideas and creates press releases in collaboration with district and school leaders to promote the District and school sites.
- Assists in public relations activities that help expand K-12 educational awareness and school programs, including attending district- and school-sponsored events, some of which may be in the evenings and on weekends.
- Supports the Superintendent through preparation of written materials and presentations for the purpose of getting out clear and effective communications.
- Assists in the preparation of long-range plans for project development activities and plans for individual grant proposals.
- Collaborates with a variety of parties (i.e., district personnel, community organizations, parents, business, etc.) for the purpose of securing funding to maintain and enhance services and/or programs.
- Develops forms, processes, procedures, and policies for the purpose of implementing a consistent grant application methodology.
- Develops grant applications and related documents (i.e., required reports, budgets, specific inquiries, etc.) for the purpose of submitting highly effective grant applications to the appropriate funding agency.
- Evaluates the degree of match between listed grant priority areas and the needs of Baboquivari Unified School District for the purpose of matching needs with funding sources.
- Monitors proposals and funding application requirements (i.e., presentation, content, delivery method and labeling, deadlines, eligibility for grants, etc.) for the purpose of utilizing time and resources to maximize the successful awarding of grant funds.
- Attends education conferences, and workshops and reads informational materials to stay abreast of the latest strategies, policies, and innovations as they relate to grant writing and public relations.
- Attends district-sponsored events including late afternoons and weekends.
- Reliable transportation.
- Collaborate with school and district leaders to produce all social meetings.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
- FBI fingerprint background check.
- Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
- Valid AZ Driver’s License is required within 10 days of hire. Must not have accrued eight points against driver’s license within the past two years.
- Reliable mode of personal transportation with evidence of auto insurance policy. Coverage must be valid throughout the term of employment.

PHYSICAL TASKS
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is required only to supplement normal sedentary work. Assistance is available in the event heavy physical exertion is required. Work may involve occasional lifting and carrying weights up to 25 pounds. Moderate walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and sitting for extended periods may be required as a normal part of the job. Employees may be required to obtain a driver’s license in some instances. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required of public contact positions.

Uses office equipment such as telephone, camera equipment, computer, printer, facsimile, and copier.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor. Office environment. Exposure to noise. Contact with employees and the public. Travel to schools
sites and other community locations.
