The System Administrator position is a full-time position in the Information Technology (IT) Department. The System Administrator, under general supervision, will be responsible for enterprise server architecture, security and day-to-day operations. Specifically working with design, configuration, implementation, maintenance, security and administration activities in an enterprise server infrastructure. This includes Virtual, Physical and Hosted Server platforms, SANs, backups and other related server equipment. This position is routinely assigned deliverables on various technical projects and works independently as well as part of a team. This role contributes to the team in an effort to further share knowledge and processes and ensures lessons learned are documented. Travel between sites and after hours support services will be required. This position will report to the Chief Information Officer.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, hours depending upon need.
Compensation: $85,000 – $100,000 Depending on Experience
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Design, install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade and audit the server infrastructure
- Monitor overall health of production, hosted and pre-production server environments
- Maintain reliable, secure and robust operation of server environment including installation and updates of operating systems and software releases, system upgrades and backups.
- Evaluate and install patches and resolve software related problems
- Collaborate with Security and implement strong security configurations, remediate vulnerabilities, manage email filtering and install updates.
- Administration of virtualized hosts and provisioning of virtual machines
- Oversee backups of production systems and ensure restore processes are functional and secure
- Create and keep up to date server infrastructure documentation.
- Manage DNS for internal and external name resolution
- Monitors capacity and analyzes information concerning processing time, response times, application/software, CPU loads, etc.
- Proactively informs management of potential system concerns, makes recommendations, and provides capacity planning/metric reports
- Administration of systems to support digital signage and remote access applications
- Ensure uptime of mission critical infrastructure components and adhere too strict SLAs.
- Maintain governmental compliance and participate in audits as needed
- Conduct technical evaluations on new products and provides recommendations
- Keep up to date on latest technologies and trends.
- Provide 24×7 on-call support as required
- Follows operational procedures to appropriately analyze, escalate, and assist in remediation of critical information security incidents
- Participates in the development of project proposals with emphasis on cost/benefits
- Assist IT team with improvements to enhance functionality and service to users.
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Skilled in organizing and expressing ideas effectively in oral and written communication
- Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment
- 5+ years in a Windows Server environment or Systems Administrator role
- Experience supporting data, storage and voice devices
- Proficient in administration of Windows servers, Exchange, Azure and SQL Server
- Follow through on short and long term projects
- Hands on experience with servers and appliances
- Working knowledge of computer systems and networks
- Must be capable of following strict policies and procedures
- Highly organized, analytical and action oriented
- Creates and maintains technical documentation on server processes and standards
- Physically perform the essential functions of the job
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(Persons applying for a position should have a combination of the following experience and training.)
- Four years of information technology related experience or combination of post-secondary technical training such as: installing workstations, providing technical support for software, or installing and maintaining hardware, network infrastructure equipment, security or telecommunications software or hardware or equivalent education/experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in information technology maintaining Windows servers
- Strong proficiency Windows server environment, storage and virtualization technologies
- Experience with VMware, MS Exchange, LogicMonitor, Digital Signage, Simplivity, Azure
- Proficient in DNS, Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, Resource Monitoring, etc.
- Certification in one or more of the following; information security, systems administration or CompTIA Server+ is highly desired
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer related discipline
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Servers, racks, SANs, switches, firewalls, battery backups, syslog, WMI and SNMP logging applications, event logs, resource monitoring, cable termination, computer, telephone, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both in an office and manufacturing environment while sitting or standing at a desk or computer. Physical exertion may be required to lift or move equipment.
