The Boeing Company is looking for a Systems Engineer- Learning Leader, to support the Virginia Tech Operations team, in Blacksburg, Virginia. We are looking for a range of experience including Mid-Level or Senior Systems Engineers.
We are looking for an innovative team member that has a passion for the next generation’s talent development. This position will be located at the Virginia Tech campus is Blacksburg, VA and coordinates learning initiatives and curriculum development with the all-new Virginia Tech Innovation Campus in Arlington, VA, just a few miles from Boeing’s World Headquarters.
This team member will be responsible for the overall integration and experiences related to learning initiatives between Boeing and Virginia Tech’s students and faculty. Areas of exploration include, but aren’t limited to, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Advanced Manufacturing, Digital Transformation, Intelligent Interfaces, Advanced Wireless Systems and Collaborative Autonomous Systems. This team member will coordinate Boeing Enterprise and Subsidiary learning opportunities with Virginia Tech and support development of the Northern Virginia Research Hub.
Note-this role requires up to 15% domestic travel.
Position Responsibilities:
- Curate and mature Discovery Thinking framework and integrate into multidisciplinary courses
- Integrate Enabling Technology understanding in areas such as Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence into curriculum and projects
- Perform classroom instruction and coordinate Boeing support personnel, as required, for learning engagements with departments and undergraduate research initiatives/courses such as those provided by the Applied Electromagnetic Consortium (AEC) and associated Manufacturing Engineering Education Programs (MEEP)
- Define resources and material items and funding needed for project-based learning
- Coordinate associated resources for project execution with University organizations
- Facilitate donation of Boeing materials and surplus equipment for student project use
- Coordinate Boeing Accelerated Leadership Program students as support for course execution and student team mentoring
- Support Boeing mentoring initiatives with students
- Establish Relationships with Colleges/Programs to mature and support educational and research experiences
- Partner with industry leading companies to expand student experience
- Integrate projects from internal Boeing, industry partners and academic partners with courses
- Schedule and support organization of Boeing site visits for students
- Develop and Sponsor Innovation Challenges for broad student engagement
- Align educational program outcomes to support pathway to VT Innovation Campus
- Integrate Discovery Thinking into VT Innovation Campus curriculum
- Participate in Campus Advisory Boards
- Integrate Discovery Thinking into Boeing internal learning programs
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Note: this role will require up to 15% travel to other Virginia Tech locations.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- Experience as an instructor in a classroom environment
- Professional experience teaching others and leading training activities
- Experience working in engineering research and development
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with physical computing, autonomous systems or collaborative autonomy applications
- Familiarity with Discovery Thinking framework and Systems Engineering approaches
- Understanding of digital transformation enablers such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and data decision tools
- Hands on experience with prototyping technology demonstrators
Typical Education/Experience:
Mid-Level (Level 3)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Senior (Level 4)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Relocation:

Summary Pay Plan Mid-Level: $97,750 – $132,250
