Pay Range:
$114,630 – $142,332 Annually
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for an Administrator to handle day-to-day administrative and business operations. This work with take place in the National Ignition Facility (NIF) Target Area Science and Engineering (TASE) area. This is a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you will plan and execute multiple high-level events and reviews throughout the year. You will also work independently and use comprehensive knowledge of the area to assess business, operational and organizational requirements and deliverables; and apply general knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices to develop, approve, and implement administrative and operational activities. This position is in the TASE Program within NIF and Photon Science Directorate.
This position will be filled at either level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
In this role, you will
- Act as the primary point of contact for TASE, NIF Control Systems (NCS), Data Systems (DATS) and Supply Chain administrative matters; plan, execute, and oversee a variety of operational and organizational requirements and activities to include external vendors, universities and collaborators.
- Participate in planning and execution, operational issues, and develop methods for successfully meeting deliverables and support technical review of experimental proposals using customer-designed software tools.
- Represent TASE on self-assessment, audit teams, or work-related committees.
- Manage administrative staff to include hiring, supervising, mentoring, training, performance appraisals, coordinating work assignments and providing ranking and salary recommendations.
- Lead projects, solve complex problems, develop and implement new techniques and procedures, interpret policy formulate recommendations and establish procedures.
- Collect, validate, interpret and analyze business and/or organizational planning data in support of strategic planning activities and establish and maintain complex databases, spreadsheets, and tracking systems to ensure action items are completed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the A01.3 Level
- Identify complex strategies and goals for the team to ensure success criteria is clearly defined. Influence direction and drive action across the team to deliver high quality operations, service and collaboration efforts with stakeholders.
- Advise on business, workforce, operations and strategic planning activities relating to compliance, personnel, facilities, and operations as a member of the management team.
- Partner with multiple Administrators in the development and implementation of related group’s administrative practices.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Experience coordinating administrative and operational work activities and multifaceted internal processes, including coordinating large events and reviews.
- Specialized and operational knowledge of industry practices with experience applying analytical, research, problem solving, and decision-making skills and resolving issues.
- Experience representing management to diverse internal and external contacts, communicating manager’s direction.
- Experience interacting with all levels of personnel exercising a high degree of discretion, mature judgment, and tact in handling issues of a sensitive nature and demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills necessary to effectively explain, present, direct, negotiate and influence others.
- Experience participating in and leading business, operational and/or organizational activities.
- Working knowledge of computers and associated software including MS Office applications, cloud-based customer relationship management products including Salesforce and CVENT, and FileMaker Pro or equivalent database software and experience developing complex reports for use in management decision-making.
- Understanding of principles of personnel administration, policies and procedures and state and federal laws; knowledge and understanding of HR compliance requirements for personnel administration, FLSA, ADA, EEO, etc.
In Addition at the A01.3 Level:
- Associate Degree in a business related field, or equivalent combination of significant experience and education in a related business, operational, and/or organizational area.
- Experience identifying and analyzing opportunities for improvement and solving complex problems strategically. Leading projects with involved research and analysis of involved policies.
- Experience supervising and performance managing staff, as well as experience working in cooperation with human resources on recruitment and hiring best practices, drafting job listings, and hire packages.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with Smart Recruiters, Candidate Analysis Tool, LAPIS, EAM Move database, ELM and Integrity.
- Working knowledge of Laboratory policies and procedures.
- Experience creating and maintaining Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

Security Clearance
