Position Overview

Join our dynamic team in Tax Administration as a Tax Analyst, where you’ll play a crucial role in analyzing and processing legal documents related to real property tax listings. Be part of a fast-paced environment where you’ll ensure accuracy and completeness of modifications, provide assistance to both internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to the improvement of our procedures and software. Make a meaningful impact by maintaining data integrity and helping us track and audit daily data production.

Examples of Duties

  • Analyzes, verifies and processes recorded deeds; and other legal and public documents pertaining to land records affecting the tax listing for real property ownership including making other modifications such as changes in address, corrections to typographical or other efforts Ensures accuracy and completeness of said modifications. Logs, audits, and edits all daily work
  • Provides general and technical assistance to Department staff, legal staff, or other members of the public regarding assigned program policies and procedures, researches and analyzes information such as property identification, ownership, tax assessments
  • Assists Department staff with researching and analyzing information on yearly edit reports. Enters tax related information into Department databases as needed
  • Assists in design and updates of LR/CAMA procedure and software manual as pertains to this position and implements various reports for tracking and auditing daily data production

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited two-year community college with a degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Management Preference: Experience in Real Estate Title work or Deed Research

Depending on the area of assignment, employees are required to complete the North Carolina Fundamentals of Property Tax Listing and Assessing Course or the North Carolina Fundamentals of Property Tax Collection Course within 24 months of hiring date.

Negative drug screen and background check are required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Cumberland County as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of Tax Analyst
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of tax assessment and billing procedures
  • Knowledge of the General Statues of North Carolina affecting the collection of real and personal property taxes
  • Knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertain to work responsibilities
  • Knowledge of modem office practices and procedures as related to the duties of the Tax Analyst/Transfer Clerk
  • Knowledge of personal computer programs to handle essential duties and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies
  • Ability to understand the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work
  • Able to compute figures rapidly and accurately
  • Ability to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra-and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which position interacts
