General Purpose
Provide expertise in a specialized field. Act as a resource to generalist personnel to investigate and resolve problem situations. Research and analyze new or existing programs, systems and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions. Develop and maintain operational and procedural documentation.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Associate T&D Specialist position include the following:
• Provide technical support to operation and control functions within the business.
• Under direction, develop and modify policies and practices to improve the effective operation of PacifiCorp’s substations and transmission and distribution system.
• Recommend solutions to improve system performance.
• Analyze schemes and prints and prepare field notebooks and outlines for installation of relays, and maintain file of field tests.
• Assist with improvement of policies, procedures and other documentation that govern all aspects of electrical operations and ensure they are fully integrated with company safety procedures, legislative requirements and meet all NERC reliability standard requirements.
• Work with engineers and operations staff to resolve system and design issues.
• Provide training as needed for various departments including dispatch, relay technicians, relay technician trainees, substation journeyman, substation journeyman apprentices, communication technicians, communication technician trainees, and switchman.
In addition, the responsibilities of the Mid Level T&D Specialist position are:
• Develop and modify policies and practices to improve the effectiveness of PacifiCorp’s transmission and distribution system.
In addition, the responsibilities of the Senior Level T&D Specialist position are:
• Lead development and implementation processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
• Evaluate policies, procedures and other documentation and ensure all aspects of electrical operations are in accordance with company safety procedures, legislative requirements and meet all NERC reliability standard requirements.
• Supervise local relay technicians, communication technicians, and substation journeymen and develop and review daily and weekly schedules when required.
In addition, the responsibilities of the Principal Level T&D Specialist position are:
• Provide technical oversight and guidance to the T&D support staff.
• Serve as the Company expert in a specialized field and provide authoritative consultation and recommendations to senior management.
Requirements
Requirements for Associate T&D Specialist position include the following:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of the power system.
• Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal and external customer issues which maybe critical, sensitive, or urgent in nature.
• Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to effectively translate technical jargon into layman’s terms.
• Travel may be required.
• Respond after hours to support field crews as required
In addition, the requirements of the Mid Level T&D Specialist position are:
• A minimum of two years of related experience.
• Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems.
• Understanding of applicable company policies, practices and procedures.
In addition, the requirements of the Senior Level T&D Specialist position are:
• A minimum of five years of directly related experience.
• Expert knowledge of current technologies, tools, systems, and vendors.
In addition, the requirements of the Principal Level T&D Specialist position are:
• A minimum of 15 years of industry experience as a substation journeyman, relay technician, communications technician or T&D Specialist including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
• Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
• Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
• Highest level of communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives and recommendations.
• Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
• Expert knowledge and applications of principles in applicable area of specialty.
Preferences
• Experience supervising technical personnel.
• Project management skills.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
