GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Honor Farm (WHF) houses 289 adult male offenders and is classified as a minimum custody facility. Established in 1931, the Honor Farm is located one mile north of Riverton, Wyoming. The Honor Farm’s Maintenance and VoTech play an integral part in inmate rehabilitation by providing an opportunity for inmates. Respect is a life skill that many inmates need help developing while incarcerated, and those in these programs work together as a team to develop respect for the opinions and goals of others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Overhauls, troubleshoot, and repairs gas and diesel engines, drive trains, hydraulic brakes, and electrical systems on vehicles and small and heavy equipment.
  • Performs regular maintenance and safety inspections on gas and diesel vehicles and small and heavy equipment including tune-ups, oil changes, and safety inspections.
  • Schedules work activities in the shop.
  • Responds to telephone and radio calls.
  • Prepares paperwork and reports.
  • Gets quotes for repair parts.
  • Purchases parts and pays bills.
  • Trains and reviews the work mechanics or work crews in the area of vehicle or equipment maintenance or repair.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants who are ASE certified or with a background in Corrections.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of equipment manuals.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to prepare work estimates

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Mechanic

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Mechanic

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, bio-hazards, potential explosives, and the elements.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Walking on hard and/or uneven surfaces.
