Job Description
The KIPP Metro Atlanta Teaching Residency is an innovative, two-year residency program that offers aspiring teachers a supportive, gradual introduction to the teaching profession. The program provides mentorship and robust coursework, resulting in a Master’s degree from the Relay Graduate School of Education and a lead teaching position with KIPP Atlanta Schools at the conclusion of the two-year program.
The Teacher Residency Coach’s job is to ensure that Teacher Residents are receiving the most effective support from their mentors (referred to as Resident Advisors or RAs) to attain a lead teaching position by year’s end. The Teacher Residency Coach accomplishes this goal primarily through two levers: 1) Providing on-going RA development via one-on-one coaching and whole group pd sessions and 2) Ensuring fidelity to the program’s specific guidelines for the Gradual On-Ramp of teaching responsibilities for the Resident and corresponding Resident Advisor mentoring requirements. This position reports directly to the Director of Teacher Residency.
Essential Duties:
- Builds programmatic knowledge of Relay’s curriculum, assessments, and gradual on-ramp framework of Resident teaching responsibilities
- Develops own knowledge of best practices in instructional coaching and then coaches the coach/RA how to match strategies to the needs of their Resident
- Manages personal calendar to allow for sufficient time for classroom observations and high-quality instructional coaching of RAs across 11 campuses as well as the completion of other core duties
- Identifies trends to shape professional development sessions to best meet Resident Advisor needs
- Deliver summer and after-school training sessions around different areas of instructional coaching and mentorship

Talent Development 70%
Coach and train Resident Advisors
- Coach Resident Advisors directly through one-on-one meetings to ensure alignment in the coaching of Residents and participants’ satisfaction, effectiveness, and well-being
- Co-observe residents with Resident Advisors to support in the development of identifying Resident action steps or to norm scoring resident performance using Relay’s assessment rubrics
- Ensure Resident Advisors are completing all coaching requirements:
- Submitting all requested deliverables to Relay or the KIPP Director of Teacher Residency in a timely manner
- Attending all required Resident Advisor training
- Conducting weekly O3 meetings with Teacher Residents
- Observing and providing feedback to residents using focus feedback areas from Relay’s Gradual On-Ramp document
- Completing Teacher Resident evaluation process: preparation, observation, and any necessary follow up
- Coordinate the communication between Residents, Resident Advisors, Principals, Relay and all other stakeholders in accordance with the growth of the residents
Support Teacher Residents
- Ensures Resident is provided enough “at bats” to reach proficiency
- Conduct check-ins with Teacher Residents to ensure residents are having an overall positive programmatic experience with Relay, their RAs, and in their assigned schools
- Advocate for Residents’ development and intervene on Residents’ behalf if campus expectations do not align with Relay’s Gradual On-Ramp guidelines
- Participate in the placement of Teacher Residents within KIPP at the end of year 1 of the program
Management & Leadership 30%
- Reinforce expectations and guidelines throughout the year to ensure all schools follow the Gradual On-Ramp model for increasing Resident teaching responsibilities appropriately
- Communicate expectations and programmatic changes to Principals throughout the year via regular check-ins
- Problem-solve with schools and Relay as issues related to the residency program arise
- Serve as a liaison between KIPP Atlanta schools and Relay
- Participate in weekly KIPP/Relay check-ins to provide Resident updates and solve any issues
- Support growth strategy for the residency program
- Collect and analyze feedback from all stakeholders to identify possible programmatic adjustments needed in the future
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum 7 years of experience with at least 5 years of teaching experience and 2 years of experience coaching and developing teachers
- Prior experience as a mentor or Resident Advisor preferred
- Immediate understanding of what effective teaching looks like and a deep commitment to effective and rigorous instruction
- The ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders at all levels of an organization, and to consistently display a high level of professionalism in all interactions
- Track record of success influencing and motivating partners to action
- Collaborative team player, comfortable leading as well as executing projects as required
- Excellent leadership, management, and organizational skills required
- Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making, think strategically, work collaboratively, and gather and analyze data, compile information

Salary Range:
$70,000 – 85,000
