Position Summary
The Teaching and Learning Specialist is a member of the University College Learning Experience Design Team. The Learning Experience Design Team plays a central role in advancing University College’s mission to provide rigorous and engaging learning experiences by engaging in and providing strategic insight for instructor support and development, course optimization, and quality assurance in course delivery.
The Teaching and Learning Specialist position provides support and training in the areas of teaching and learning strategies, educational technology, and student experience optimization primarily for new and existing instructors, and University College staff when appropriate. The position supports online, hybrid, and hyflex delivery to ensure the quality of the educational experience for students and instructors of University College. The Teaching and Learning Specialist will engage in duties related to academic program support, instructor performance coaching, onboarding, and other duties to support instructor success. Specifically, this position has an emphasis on supporting instructor use of educational technology tools and creating resources to help instructors regardless of experience with technology.

Essential Functions
- Integrates best teaching practices and strategies to help instructors enhance delivery in online, hybrid, and hyflex modalities.
- Supports instructor questions regarding the Canvas LMS platform, DU-supported educational technology tools, and classroom-enhancing technologies.
- Helps instructors identify teaching strategies and techniques to meet course outcomes.
- Assists instructors in selecting and executing the most effective and appropriate technology tools based on best practices in online teaching.
- Offers workshops to instructors related to competency areas in the University College Teaching Excellence Program.
- Strategizes with Academic Directors to conduct teaching observations to ensure instructors are leveraging best practices to align with University College program teaching expectations.
- Onboards new instructors to the University College community by reviewing teaching expectations, discussing new technology, highlighting the LMS, and answering questions.
- Engages in proactive course maintenance to ensure consistency and quality in course containers prior to an upcoming term.
- Engages in positive, productive, professional and interpersonal relations within University College, e.g., meetings, task forces, focus groups, etc., including strategy formulation, problem solving, and future planning and direction for University College.
- Engages in conferences, trainings, and presentations as a representative of University College.
- Engages in data management duties related to academic program support, instructor performance and activity, and learning analytics.
- Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, data analysis; hardware and software support for UCOL; attending meetings and activities within DU and working with professional organizations.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years relevant professional experience.
- Knowledge of teaching principles and best practices related to achievement of learning outcomes
- Experience with online or blended learning environments, preferably including hybrid modalities.
- Experience analyzing existing educational materials for rigor and quality.
- Experience providing support to others such as, but not limited to, a help desk or customer service type of position.
- Knowledge of learning management tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in area of instructional design, educational technology, higher education, and/or instructional technology.
- Knowledge of and experience with adult learners.
- Knowledge of the Canvas learning management system
- Experience mentoring or coaching in some capacity.
- Teaching or training experience in a formal setting, such as, but not limited to, an academic institution, corporate training environment, or non-profit environment.
- Experience in development and deployment of a quality control process.
- Experience with course development.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Some evenings as required.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
