Teaching Associate Professor – Engineering, Design, and Society
The Opportunity
The Department of Engineering, Design, and Society (EDS) at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the teaching associate professor rank in engineering, design, and society. We seek top candidates for our diverse engineering design programs, where they will participate in teaching, course development, assessment, and service in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and potential graduate classes in engineering design at all levels. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 3 courses per semester. Mines offers opportunities for new faculty to have a reduced teaching load that will be ramped up to the full load over 1 to 2 years.
Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality engineering education, inclusive teaching practices, and active engagement in the engineering education community. The successful candidate is expected to teach in person. We anticipate that the successful candidate will start in August 2023.
Minimum Qualifications
- A doctoral degree in engineering or closely related discipline
- Five years’ experience with innovative engineering design program development and delivery
- Two years’ experience with innovative engineering design program leadership
- Two years’ experience integrating engineering design academic programming with makerspace facilities
- The ability to teach undergraduate courses in integrated engineering design at all levels, first year through senior year
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional leadership in engineering education, such as leadership roles in ASEE divisions
- Director-level leadership appointments in engineering design programs at any level
- Experience with vertical integration programming in engineering design
- Experience managing staff and student workers
- Experience leading first-year or senior-year engineering design programs
- Professional experience in the design/construction industry

Pay Range
Mines is offering an academic year salary of $82,965 – $110,000
Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
