Team Downtown Raleigh’s core mission is to ensure Downtown Raleigh is clean and aesthetically pleasing.
The Senior Transportation Specialist is devoted to transportation system maintenance, planning, management and administration. Lead or supervise an assigned crew performing semi-skilled and skilled technical and specialized work in streets, traffic systems and/or storm water maintenance. Supervise paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, and discipline and termination procedures.
All team positions have a 40-hour work schedule of Sunday through Thursday from 6a.m. until 2:30p.m. (April – September) and 7a.m. until 3:30p.m. (October – March). As an essential employee, other extended hours are required during special events and weather-related emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Litter, graffiti, and sticker removal; power washing.
- Loose leaf collection, and snow and ice removal.
- Setting up work zones and working special events such as the Raleigh Christmas Parade and Artsplosure.
- Work is performed outside year-round in all weather conditions and will consist of an extensive amount of walking
- Excellent customer service skills are a requirement of this position
- Safe operation of equipment and hand tools such as (but not limited to) brooms and dustpans, shovels, rakes, blowers, sweepers, GEM cars, trucks and power washers.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
- Communicate instructions to other team members as needed
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and four years of related experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation
Licensing/Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
