Pay Range
- $36.50 – $47.28 Hourly for the 538.2 level
- $43.78 – $56.70 Hourly for the 538.3 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for a Technical Coordinator/Sr.Technical Coordinator – Industrial Gases to provide advanced technical support in industrial gases with occasional support to other work areas in the Supply and Distribution Division including shipping and receiving. You will perform task related to the coordination, documentation, and support of institutional bulk and compressed gas purchasing and delivery. This position is in the Asset Management Department within the Business Directorate.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
In this role you will
- Provide coordination, handling, and documentation for industrial gases purchasing which includes bulk gases, compressed gas cylinders, dry ice, and bottled water.
- Be responsible for providing accurate data entry that supplies Asset Management Department reports to track performance and enable decision making. Maintain accurate data entry within property management database, Sunflower, and procurement system, LINCS.
- Follow institutional policies, procedures, DOT/IATA regulations, or state and federal laws to receive and transport hazardous materials.
- Actively maintain procurement delegation status and accept TRR responsibilities on supplier contracts. Coordinate with vendors on deliveries, pricing, supply issues, etc.
- Monitor industrial gases cryogenic tanks for sufficient operational inventory, update gauge reading in vendor specific databases, process orders, communicate potential issues with product levels, etc.
- Provide guidance and information in response to inquiries and solve problems of moderate scope and complexity, working within a framework of standard policies and procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Participate as a project team member, providing moderately complex technical guidance and procurement support to senior technicians, technical associates, and engineers/scientists on small-to-medium projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the 538.3 level
- Provide advanced coordination, handling, and documentation for industrial gases purchasing which includes bulk gases, compressed gas cylinders, dry ice, and bottled water.
- Provide advanced procurement/coordination support to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel as a Technical Release Representative (TRR). Coordinate with vendors on deliveries, pricing, supply issues, etc.
- Participate or lead project team to provide acquisition support to senior technicians, technical associates, and engineers/scientists on medium-large projects.
- May direct a work unit including leading, directing, mentoring, and training junior personnel. Serve as a backup to the Industrial Gases SME.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Associate degree in mechanical field or equivalent related certificate or diploma with related work experience.
- Intermediate skills and understanding of industrial gases and basic understanding of how the gases are used and applied.
- Practical knowledge of material handling operations, techniques and methods and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work independently as well as function as a team player to accomplish the goals and objectives of the department.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of personalities and disciplines at various levels throughout the Laboratory.
- Intermediate skills and understanding of relevant technologies and processes to solve moderately complex technical problems and exercise limited decision making using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
- Experience in participating on-the-job training, such as operational or equipment training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Hazmat certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Certification within three months from date of hire, which requires a current CA Driver’s License, State Driver Record (current driver record from Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at the time of hire, required annually thereafter), CMV training, CMV Road Test, and Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Evaluation (separate/additional to pre-hire medical evaluation, required every 2 years thereafter).
Additional qualifications at the 538.3 level
- Ability to identify problems and provide solutions to complex technical issues.
- Advanced understanding of the acquisition process; knowledge of approval, bid, award, receive, reconciliation, and close-out.
- Experience interpreting and applying technical and ES&H requirements, standards, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications We Desire
- Knowledge of LLNL ES&H and security requirements and policies.
- Understanding of LLNL systems and programs related to industrial gases.
