Body In White Manufacturing Technical Specialist will provide Technical Leadership, Mentorship, and cross departmental guidance on design and execution of new model development and launch. The role requires understanding of product design, manufacturing assembly processes, and launch phase commissioning process to achieve manufacturing build.
You Will:
- Lead Development of body manufacturing philosophy for Product Design
- Lead Analysis and Critique of Product Sequence, assembly, datum, fixturing, and joining strategies.
- Lead internal assembly process strategy based on product development and lead coordination of product design changes with product design team based on DFM/A requirements.
- Develop and lead manufacturing dimensional body accuracy strategy, and quality loop execution of achieving body accuracy targets during launch commissioning phase.
- Overview Launch execution planning, installation, and commissioning
- Provide technical guidance in Simultaneous Engineering activities – understand body structure development, plan manufacturing R&D testing of new methods and guide product design changes for manufacturing.
- Liaison and maintain strong relationships with other company groups (Product Design, Plant Manufacturing, Supply Chain, PM office, etc) to progress BIW Manufacturing projects.
- Strategize, advise, schedule, and organize inter and cross departmental work flow for Launch Capital projects
- Analyze efficient BIW concept Layouts and proposals for equipment and facilities – considering process quality, throughput (cycle time), cost, timing.
- Strategize, plan, and execute Manufacturing Engineering prototype builds, material flow, production equipment installation & commissioning.
- Lead department standardization effort for manufacturing requirements in product design and Equipment Process / Fixture design
- Assist in Facility Specifications & Bid Documentation and participate in facility (building) and process equipment RFQ process
- Assist Manufacturing Engineering in coordinating & tracking Product Release and engineering changes.
- Manage product change control workflow
- Identify and track open issues, develop risk mitigation strategies and coordinate with appropriate stakeholders within the company for action items
- Knowledge of latest innovations in manufacturing engineering and applications.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance and support to all domains of BIW Manufacturing Engineering
You Bring:
- Bachelors or master’s in engineering required
- Experience in Automotive with at least 8+ years in BIW Manufacturing New Model Projects
- Must be familiar with below 8 core areas of BIW Manufacturing, with having direct experience in at least 4-5 of these areas within BIW Manufacturing domain
- Product Design for Manufacturing & Assembly
- Manufacturing Process Body Dimensional and Fit
- Design phase strategies & Launch Body Accuracy Target Execution Planning
- Manufacturing Process, Equipment and Specification and Equipment / Fixture Design
- Automation Controls and Robotics
- Digital Factory Process Design and Simulation
- Launch Program Management
- Plant Pilot Launch Management
- Commissioning, Trial builds, Quality Loop, Buyoff, Production Training, Handover
- BIW Joining Methods and Technologies
- Experienced in new Greenfield / Brownfield BIW Launch
- Proven Track record as technical lead in BIW launch programs
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Independent and Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Software: AutoCAD, Catia V6 (3DExperience), MS Office, MS Project, Navisworks
- Ability to understand Construction Mechanical and Electrical drawings.
- Willing to Travel up to 25% of the time.
$138,000 – $180,000 a year
Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
• California (Bay Area) – $138,000 – $180,000 annually
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
