POSITION: Technical Specialist

DIVISION: Metrology and Analysis Systems Division (MAD)

COMPANY: Hitachi High-Tech America, Inc. (“HTA”)

TRAVEL: Up to 25% (domestically and internationally)

REMOTE WORK: Onsite 90% / Remote 10%

EXPECTED PAY RANGE: $72,451 – $99,620

This pay range is for the position’s base pay only. This position may be eligible for other compensation including incentive pay and/or allowances. Candidates will receive additional information during the interview and selection process.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Specialist (TS) is responsible to the service organization for the documentation, training, expertise, and guidance as applied to the instrument base that is assigned. Additionally, it is expected that they will also work with New Products Engineers to transition new products to field operations. The TS can expect to travel to Japan to learn new instruments introduced by the factory, support the development of training and service documentation, support implementation of field service projects related to the equipment, and ultimately interface with the factory on all problems or issues with regard to the assigned equipment.

Although the TS reports to the District Service Manager, the TS works closely with HTA and HHT technical departments, HTA HR department, and the national service organization as a whole. HTA’s District Service Management will establish plans and priorities for the engineer to follow which could include temporary reassignment to the Product Support/Technical Support Group as necessary to accomplish divisional or department objectives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train and provide guidance to Field Service Engineers
  • Collaborate and provide information to Technical Support Engineers and/or Yield Control Technology Engineers as needed
  • Be the point person (“Engineer in Charge” or EIC) for customer communications
  • Interface with on-site service engineers in the troubleshooting and resolution of more complex problems requiring advanced levels of knowledge and experience
  • Provide local support to customers in his/her area as necessary and decided by their management.
  • Work with NPI Engineers as necessary
  • Conduct ongoing OJT and classroom training, as required
  • Act as a lead engineer in the first-time installation of newly introduced instruments, ensuring that proper techniques and procedures are passed to the local service personnel installing the instruments
  • Supply proper communications and reports to the factory design group regarding problems and issues seen by the HTA Service Department
  • Maintain the highest possible technical knowledge level for the assigned instruments.
  • Work weekends, nights, or other shifts as assigned required to meet customer or company business requirements
  • Travel domestically and overseas, as necessary to perform position responsibilities
  • Work with multifunctional groups towards completion of a common goal
  • Participate in the administration of the service department by working with special assignments that require technical input. (i.e. spare parts selection, training programs, service procedures, etc.)
  • Maintain appropriate records of all work performed and training received
  • Comply and adhere to company policies
  • Complete assigned on-the-job training (OJT), with the goal of process certification
  • Manage and maintain any traveling inventory according to department policy and procedure
  • Protect and maintain company property. (i.e. traveling inventory, company car, test equipment, tools, computers, etc.)
  • Provide preventive maintenance and emergency service on the equipment within the assigned territory or assigned customer
  • Set and keep appropriate schedules for service on the assigned equipment
  • Install and test the assigned equipment at the customer site
  • Train less experienced engineers with OJT and classroom training
  • Complete assigned formal training with a grade of 70 or more on all tests
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, LICENSES, and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • AS degree in electronics or equivalent
  • BS degree in Electronics Engineering or relevant field preferred
  • BSEET (or equivalent) certification – or – ASEET (or equivalent) certification plus two additional years of related experience beyond required experience listed below a plus

EXPERIENCE and TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Five (5) years of experience using digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools and computers
  • Five (5) years of experience disassembling and assembling intricate parts as related to selected instruments
  • Complete assigned formal training with a grade of 70 or more on all tests
  • Solid electronics and mechanical skills
  • Must have and retain valid driver’s license in resident State. Must be insurable by our insurance carrier
  • Must be eligible for and receive company credit card
  • Travel up to 25% of the time with most travel being within the assigned district, but can include any domestic or international customer location. Must be available to travel to various customer sites as directed by management

  • Ability to effectively communicate information regarding service activities and schedules

  • Ability to complete system installation including Advanced Customer Training
  • Ability to provide Room Surveys
  • Ability to provide technical supervision and guidance to other Field Service Engineers
  • Ability to supervise the work schedule of other Field Service Engineers
  • Ability to communicate with peer engineers and factory personnel to solve extremely complex service calls
  • Ability to solve extremely complex problems utilizing independent actions and a high degree of initiative
  • Ability to prepare documentation for on-the-job (OJT) or classroom training
  • Ability to work on assignments that are complex utilizing considerable judgment and initiative
  • Ability to give training classes or OJT on complex system theory to Field Service Engineers and customers
  • Ability to work from schematics using various test equipment and mathematical calculations specific to electronics
  • Ability to effectively interface with customers, both internal and external
  • Ability to train less experienced engineers in OJT and classroom environments
  • Ability to perform new support functions as assigned
  • Ability to fill the role of a leader in the department
  • Ability to portray professionalism and pride in appearance while conforming to company dress policy
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry as applied to our equipment
  • Basic Knowledge and understanding of Physics and Chemistry
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry as applied to our equipment
  • Requires equipment specific operational skills
