About the Program:
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is a world leader in creating standards on greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reporting used by thousands of companies, organizations, and governments worldwide. Building on a 20-year partnership between World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), GHG Protocol works with governments, industry associations, NGOs, businesses and other organizations. In 2016, 92% of Fortune 500 companies responding to the CDP used GHG Protocol directly or indirectly through a program based on GHG Protocol. The Paris Agreement, adopted within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in December 2015, commits participating all countries to limit global temperature rise, adapt to changes already occurring, and increase efforts over time. GHG Protocol also provides standards, tools and online training to help countries and cities track progress towards their climate goals.
Job Highlight:
You will use your greenhouse gas accounting expertise to provide technical support to users of Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards and guidance and help deliver GHG Protocol technical support services. These activities will help companies and organizations worldwide develop greenhouse gas inventories following Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards to measure and reduce their emissions. You will also support the work of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol more generally as needs arise. You will report to and be supported by the Technical Support and Training Lead.
What will you do:
Technical Support (80%):
- Provide technical support to users of Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards and guidance, including providing advice and answering technical questions on the application of the Corporate Standard, Scope 2 Guidance, Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard, Product Life Cycle Standard, and other standards and guidance
- Support the organization of Greenhouse Gas Protocol technical support services to delivery, including strengthen use of technical support resources, such as the FAQ, to help users apply standards. Help develop and manage emergent technical support solutions
- Support partner engagement, help to develop and manage surveys, support analysis of results, and develop internal and external resources that strengthen and scale technical support services
- Support measurement and reporting of technical support performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) that align with organizational strategy
- Contribute to and strengthen support services long-term strategy, advance solutions to grow technical support services, and identify opportunities to improve technical support services
Additional Responsibilities (20%):
- Collaborate with GHG Protocol support services team and support cross-cutting projects as they arise
- Support coordination with strategic partners, including WBCSD and Science Based Targets team to ensure harmonization across initiatives
- Support other Greenhouse Gas Protocol projects and activities as needs arise, such as updating training materials
What will you need:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field
- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of relevant, full-time work experience
- Experience conducting a corporate GHG inventory, life cycle assessment, project-level GHG accounting or other relevant experience
- Knowledge of Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards, corporate greenhouse gas accounting, and GHG quantification methodologies such as IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories
- Experience applying excellent writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills with external partners
- Experience working independently and as part of a team and working under tight deadlines. Commitment to WRI’s mission
Potential Salary: Salary range is between $69,000 and 78,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
