NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range

$75,900 – $125,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Organization 03648, National Security Program Communications, is currently seeking a Technical Writer and Editor who enjoys organizing, structuring, and communicating complex technical concepts, assessments, and presentations for decision makers and technical and non-technical audiences, and who has proven experience establishing trust-based relationships between team members, external colleagues, and customers to ensure program success. Organization 03648 supports Center 05600 and the selected candidate will work with the Organization 05647, Vulnerability Capability Unit. This diverse and elite team, which directly supports multiple national security initiatives, is part of the Threat Intelligence Community. The selected candidate will partner with multiple project teams and subject-matter experts across science and engineering communities.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Work with technical analysts and subject matter experts to organize, structure, and write specialized reports that communicate key judgments to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Perform extensive editing; review products for clarity, logic, structure, flow, grammar, consistency, format, proper classification, and classifications markings
  • Format presentations, maintain document repository sites or databases, and attend various program meetings
  • Work with analysts, other technical writers, and researchers to improve the general quality and effectiveness of communications
  • Prepare team members for presentations and other communication-related efforts outside the scope of technical writing and editing
  • Acquire topical knowledge by working directly with subject matter experts to support communication of complex technical research effectively to customers and partners

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or a relevant field, plus 5 years related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
  • Experience developing, writing, and editing technical analytic and non-analytic documents, including technical reports, articles, presentations, manuals, and other materials.
  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret
  • The ability to acquire and maintain an SCI-level clearance, which may require a polygraph test

Qualifications We Desire

  • Excellent English grammar and syntax skills
  • The demonstrated ability to implement and adhere to applicable style guides and standards when composing communication products
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work concurrently on multiple projects in various stages of development
  • The demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion
  • A self-starter who is flexible, takes the initiative, and demonstrates a sense of curiosity
  • Familiarity with the workings of government, as well as implementing policy and guidelines
  • Success working in a tight-knit team environment
  • Experience collaborating with subject matter experts to successfully resolve comments, questions, and issues to complete multiple project results with attention to quality under tight deadlines

The directorate for communications at Sandia National Laboratories is responsible for all Labs-wide communications and all communications functions within the Labs. Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia’s discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
