NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range

$86,600 – $166,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

If so, you could be the Technical Writer and Editor we are seeking to join our fast-paced, multidisciplinary team! This position may be located in either Albuquerque, NM, or Livermore, CA. This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Write, compile, and edit highly technical documentation of critical importance for nuclear deterrence programs, working with a team of Technical Writers and Editors to see that the content meets the needs of intended audiences.
  • Use your knowledge of document management best practices to manage information flow between Production Realization Teams (PRTs), customers, and management.
  • Provide timely formatting and editing of documents, presentations, and articles to ensure quality.
  • Create editorial calendars and timelines to ensure that deliverables are produced to meet customer’s needs.
  • Gather accomplishments, produce monthly reports, prepare and edit documentation, ensure requirements are met, and assist with presentations for program reviews.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, subject matter experts, and management to see that document editing expectations are met and that a collegial and professional atmosphere is maintained throughout the document’s lifecycle.
  • Acquire or verify subject knowledge by interviewing subjects; observing experiments or production; and referring to sketches, engineering drawings, journals, manuals, or similar publications.
  • Exercise quality control over documents intended for external distribution; as well as interpret and coordinate documentation and communication policies and procedures.
  • Execute documentation configuration and records management.
  • Demonstrate maturity and confidence as you interact and partner with colleagues, business center and technical leadership, high-level visitors, and senior officials.
  • Pay attention to detail while keeping your eye on the big picture.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or other relevant field plus five (5) years of experience in technical writing and editing; or Master’s degree in a relevant field plus one (1) year of relevant experience; or equivalent experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Experience editing documents and managing their development.
  • Experience with common office software, such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or other relevant field, including a scientific field.
  • Experience developing, planning, writing, and editing technical reports, factsheets, and presentations.
  • Experience creating and managing editorial calendars that require collaboration with subject matter experts, multiple management levels, and peers.
  • Experience with large file management systems and adhering to document sharing policies.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat and other Adobe Creative suite software.
  • Proven ability to form positive customer relationships and develop document processes and procedures.
  • Intermediate expertise with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn other MS Office software.
  • Active Department of Energy Q security clearance.

Security Clearance
