The Technician I – Grounds role is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $19.66 – $21.62 per hour (equivalent to $40,892 – $44,969 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate’s qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. Applicants who do not meet or applicants who exceed the qualifications for the Technician I level may be considered for another level within the department at an annual rate commensurate with applicant qualifications.
Preferred Hiring Ranges:
- Journeyman: $18.78 – $20.18 per hour (equivalent to $39,062 – $41,974 annually)
- Technician I: $19.66 – $21.62 per hour (equivalent to $40,892 – $44,969 annually)
- Technician II: $21.48 – $23.62 per hour (equivalent to $44,678 – $49,129 annually)
As a Technician I in Grounds, you’ll:
- Perform a variety of landscaping duties in the maintenance of park grounds, including but not limited to mowing grass, edging sidewalks and curbs, weed eating, trimming trees and shrubs, spraying herbicides, and removing leaves and debris;
- Make inspections to determine the condition of parks and other areas as to their need for maintenance care;
- Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints effectively, courteously, and tactfully;
- Assist with snow and ice removal;
- Perform detailed vehicle/equipment pre-trip inspections and clean personal items/trash from vehicle after use;
- Perform other related duties to ensure parks and maintenance operations run efficiently, including but not limited to cleaning park facilities, minor plumbing maintenance, maintaining playground equipment, and carpentry tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED and moderate (1-3 years) experience in the performance of general maintenance, groundskeeping, or parks maintenance work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
- Valid driver’s license at time of hire. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brakes or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date (on-the-job training will be provided).
- 18 years of age or older by hire date.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required for Consideration):
- Coursework in maintenance, horticulture, forestry, or related fields.
- Vocational/technical certificate in electricity, plumbing, HVAC systems, carpentry, horticulture, or forestry.
The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:
- DMV record check;
- Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug screen;
- FMCSA Clearinghouse Query;
- Job-specific physical; and
- Criminal background check.
