Friends Select School is seeking a middle school science/math teacher for the 2023 – 2024 school year. Ideal candidates will have a strong academic background in science and/or mathematics and be versatile enough to teach various levels of middle school science and math. In addition, the candidate should have strong collaboration skills, be familiar with current best practices and pedagogy, eager to work in a highly personalized environment, and energized by the strengths and challenges of early adolescent learners. The most qualified candidates will have the ability to challenge students at the highest academic level as well as be able to assist students who need more support.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teach at least two middle school science and/or mathematics classes on a rotating schedule for this school year
- Provide additional science and/or mathematics support/instruction to students during daily Study Help periods
- Serve as an advisor for a group of 12-15 students
- Regularly communicate student progress with families
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and professionalism in and out of the classroom
- Take a friendly and collaborative approach to teaching in order to create an inclusive environment for all
- Integrate technology into daily classroom activities and lessons
- Collaborate with a team of middle school teachers and science and mathematics department members
- Actively participate in additional middle school activities, such as field trips and student committees
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience teaching mathematics or science, preferably in a middle school setting (grades 5-8)
- Design assessments and use that data to help inform instructional practices
- Promote an environment of critical thinking
- Ability to differentiate learning for students
- An attitude that promotes student success and a passion to help students succeed
- Experience and proficiency with online learning tools, including Zoom and Google Workspace
