Title: Telecommunications Technician Assistant
Status: Nonexempt/Hourly
Wage Range: $17.32-$23.09/hour
General Statement of Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Engineering and Installation Supervisor, this position is responsible for residential installation, maintenance and repair of Swiftel products. This position must maintain a working knowledge of Swiftel products and services in order to recommend solutions to our customers. This position is responsible for assisting Telecommunications Technicians as assigned. Position must represent Brookings Municipal Utilities in a professional manner. Position must support the mission statement of Brookings Municipal Utilities in serving our customers with reliable services in a prompt and courteous manner.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Works independently or in coordination with a team to install, maintain, program, repair, troubleshoot, and test functionality on residential installations of Swiftel products and services according to established procedures.
- Educates customers on service features and functionality as well as promotes Swiftel products.
- Coordinates residential installations and service requests with customers including cost estimates for additional services as needed, as well as gathering necessary supplies, tools and equipment.
- Maintains accurate documentation for services requested and/or provided to customers.
- Assists with commercial cabling installs including cable preparation, pulling and/or removing cable as assigned.
- Initiate self-study and continually learn products and services offered by Brookings Municipal Utilities/Swiftel Communications.
- Responsible for maintaining effective communication and relations with customers while representing Brookings Municipal Utilities in a positive and professional manner at all times.
- Safely operates assigned company vehicle and ensures that it is maintained according to company specifications.
- Responsible for stand-by duties as assigned.
- Performs duties in a manner consistent with safe practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- A minimum of one year experience in a related field.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos presented either written or orally.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Certification, Testing and Examination
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Other such testing as deemed necessary by Brookings Municipal Utilities / Swiftel.
