In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a group of middle school students and lead them through a series of fun and engaging activities focused on college and career exploration. We are hiring for multiple program locations including Denny Middle School, Mercer Middle School, Meany Middle School and Washington Middle School. The Recreation Division eliminates barriers through responsive, exceptional recreation services. We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more — including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities.

Job Responsibilities

Recreation Leaders organize, plan, implement and lead recreation activities for various age groups such as mentoring, sports, drama, music, camping, field trips, aquatics programs, special events, athletic competitions, and more. Recreation Leader coordinate seasonal programs or special activities for City-wide recreational programs and recreational programs for special populations. This recruitment process is to fill multiple positions across our various Community Centers.

  • You, as a Summer Recreation Leader, will organize, plan, implement and lead fun recreation activities for community members and park goers.
  • You will engage with diverse community members using an equity focused lens to create welcoming and accessible spaces for Summer recreation activities.
  • You will build partnerships with community-based organizations and/or volunteers.
  • You will plan special events based on partnerships and community feedback.
  • You will maintain records of all standard activity, special events and program activities and utilize those records to make improvement in program offerings.
  • You will prepare promotional materials both in print and on various social media platforms.
  • You will conduct cleaning and sanitizing of equipment in compliance with COVID guidelines and will maintain social distancing requirements.
  • You will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Requires one year experience in a community-based recreation program and an associate degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Normally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May require strenuous physical activity.

License, Certification and Other Requirements

  • Current State of Washington driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate required within six months of hire.

Hiring Timeline

This job posting is open for continuous recruitment until we’ve filled all the positions . Applications will be reviewed as they are received and positions will be open until filled. Start dates vary based on program needs.

The full salary range for this position is $ 20.75 – $33.33 per hour.

Programs run June 5 th – August 18 th . Schedule will be Monday-Friday. 20-40 hrs /week. Schedule will vary between 7:30am and 4:30pm.
