Job Description
The Tennis Professional serves in a customer service role at the Oak Hollow Tennis Center. Tennis Professional assists in regular facility and court maintenance, leads public tennis programs, and has the opportunity for additional income from teaching private lessons and clinics. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Director of Tennis. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Essential Tasks
- Provides excellent customer service for patrons over the phone, in person, and in writing.
- Serves as a front desk contact at the Oak Hollow Tennis Center.
- Uses the recreation software program to register users for programs, reserve courts, and schedule private lessons/clinics. Collects fees and performs basic transactions, including end of the day closing procedures.
- Performs opening and closing procedures for Oak Hollow Tennis Center.
- Maintains records and completes related reports on program/facility attendance and revenue.
- Completes regular facility and court maintenance tasks, including sweeping/rolling of clay courts, watering courts, and general janitorial tasks.
- Operates equipment related to facility and court maintenance/operations, including utility carts, court sweepers, court rollers, drag broos, backpack blowers, etc.
- Assists the Director of Tennis with facility operation tasks.
- Supervises daily operations in the absence of the Director of Tennis; Includes supervision of court maintenance staff and seasonal/part-time pro shop staff.
- Organizes, implements, and evaluates public tennis programming.
- Has the opportunity for additional income from teaching private lessons.
- Cleans and performs simple maintenance on equipment.
- Does general maintenance and operation tasks as require.
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must possess United States Professional Tennis Association or Professional Tennis Registry status.
- Must have knowledge of clay courts as well as indoor and outdoor court maintenance.
- Previous experience implementing tennis programming.
- Must be comfortable in a customer service role and able to work with all age groups.
- Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations and OSHA
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Physical Requirements
Hearing/Speaking – Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with internal and external customers including co-workers, citizens, and necessary to operate equipment safely and enforce safety regulations.
Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
- Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see people in and around pro shop, courts, and grounds. Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected.
- Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see equipment and work aids at close range in order to operate them properly. Both eyes 20/25 corrected
- Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Necessary in order to properly operate equipment and monitor activities for regulation and safety. Depth perception – 4
- Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span of area to cover grounds and observe people and their activities in order to enforce rules and regulations. Must be alert to surroundings.
- Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye. Must be able to adjust eye lens to focus readily when glancing from near work (equipment operation, observer near at hand, etc.) to distance work (people walking around in vicinity of equipment) to monitor activities and ensure safety at all areas.

- Using arithmetic: Ability to use arithmetic to add charges for court fees, programs and merchandise, price merchandise, calculate tax percentages, count money, and make change, figure daily revenue collections, and make various reports.

- The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.
Environmental Conditions
Physical Surroundings
- The Tennis Professional is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot or cold environment.
Hazards
- The Tennis Professional will be exposed to trash, garbage, grass, plants, and various chemicals, gas, oil, and debris. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
