Amazon Web Services is looking for a Technical Infrastructure Program Manager to support and deploy one of the world’s largest and most complex telecommunication networks. The role is responsible for the execution of a strategic plan to improve the business processes and deployment of hyper-scaled cloud infrastructure – fiber networks, creation of a quality control system, pre/post-inspections for design validation, driving vendor management, and stakeholder communication for delivery schedules and invoices forecasts. This opportunity is within the Metro Fiber Planning & Acquisition (MFP&A) organization, which is responsible for planning, developing, and acquiring the physical network solutions that drive Amazon’s internal infrastructure and connect our services to the world.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Reports to the NASA Deployment Manager, and updates regularly with the NASA and Global Terrestrial Construction Senior management.
• Serve as a key member of the North and South America GCID team helping to drive overall Network Infrastructure strategy for Backbone circuits
• Vendor management to deploy on time, measure progress, and rate through quality Key performance Indicators.
• Interface with key internal stakeholders (e.g. Networking, Data Center Engineering, Technical Project Managers, Data Center Management, Security) to obtain their requirements and drive vendors to adhere to key business requirements.
• Develop a quality management program that tracks defects, mitigates risks, standardizes root cause analysis, and implements key performance measures to rate vendor success.
• Create and standardize reporting mechanisms for the GCID group and provide regular progress updates on program deployment to management and stakeholders.
• Understand the technical fiber requirements of our engineering teams and ensure the completed project meets these requirements.
• Manage and track approved network plans with internal customers and stakeholders such as technical business developers, equipment vendors or construction vendors until the infrastructure is in service.
• Manage multiple competing cross-functional projects/programs simultaneously, some on a global scale.
• Anticipate bottlenecks, manage risk and escalations, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.
• Physically audit completed construction work, review fiber test results, inspect ILAs and hand-off completed delivery to internal customers
• Advanced English skills required to run meetings, create and maintain timelines, and keep large, diverse groups informed of progress and obstacles through crisp writing.
Key job responsibilities
Program management skills to monitor vendor delivery of physical infrastructure projects and oversight of backbone circuit deployment and build out of networks to support Machine Learning. Technical skills of either fiber optic outside plant, process engineering, construction management, longhaul equipment, or quality control systems is required.
A day in the life
This role oversees deployment of longhaul fiber infrastructure, and iterative procedural changes. This includes heavy travel to the field, generation of weekly reports, and updating standards and specifications for a global deployment team. This position requires onsite visits to physical locations and is not a remote job. Physical inspections and learning the technical standards for outside and inside fiber plant is required, with a strong emphasis on fiber characterization and ILA inspections.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– 3+ years of technical infrastructure management experience
– Knowledge of best practices and emerging technologies, related to infrastructure (i.e. network, data center, hardware, software)
– 3+ years of deploying Backbone circuits and ILA experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Bachelor degree in project management, engineering or business administration preferred.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $87,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $197,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
