The Air Dominance Division of Boeing Defense Space and Security is looking for a highly experienced subject matter expert in Open Mission Systems Architectures to support the Phantom Works Advanced Design organization’s pursuit of several Next Generation Air Dominance Family of Systems development projects.

The candidate’s key responsibilities will be leading the design and development of open architecture mission systems, including tactical sensors and payloads – both Radio Frequency and Electro-Optic/Infrared and electronic warfare, including the design of platform centric integration capabilities such as sensor resource management and data fusion. Included in this design space is multi-aperture integration for cross-sensor and multi-platform functional capabilities. These responsibilities will include technical trades studies, requirements development, software development, integration, test, and verification/validation both for technology maturation/risk reduction, and ultimately for operational deployment. A key attribute for this position is the ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all components and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of open architecture standards, most significantly Open Mission Systems (OMS); and including (SPEAD, MOSA, CONCERTO, FACE, SOSA, VITA, UCI, etc)
  • Execution of trade studies to evaluate different open architecture designs and their effect on system functions and capabilities
  • Working with multiple suppliers and integrated solutions
  • Application of leadership skills and abilities to lead a team to technical consensus
  • Design and integration of high-speed data networks
  • Sensor and aperture hardware and software integration
  • Analysis of multi-functional digital and RF aperture performance and associated resource management design and integration
  • Implementation of COTS processor hardware and software layers (GPP, GPU, VPX, PPC, etc)
  • Design and implementation of sensor resource management software and algorithms
  • Lead detailed analysis of installed sensor system performance
  • Directing research into advanced concepts and prototypes for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components to develop new business opportunities
  • Working directly with senior customers to develop concepts and requirements for future systems
  • Working with source selection teams to identify appropriate solutions (make and buy) for critical programs
  • Provides support to products throughout their lifecycle from manufacturing to customer use by coordinating product-wide corrective and preventive actions as required
  • Leads development of large-scale proposals to support development of new business
  • Knowledge of analog and digital signal processing, antenna theory, stochastic theory, and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) algorithms

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 7+ years’ experience in related industry and engineering positions and/or equivalent experience in government related positions
  • Experience in RF (Radio Frequency) theory and application
  • Experience in Analog/Digital Signal Processing
  • Experience using MATLAB
  • Experience using Python
  • Experience in technical leadership
  • Experience working with open architecture systems for military applications
  • Experience with sensor resource management designs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in government related positions
  • 15+ years’ experience in related engineering/industry position
  • Experience in EO/IR (Electro-optic/Infrared) theory and application
  • Demonstrated leadership for driving issue resolution and mitigating technical risk
  • Experience working with product/component developers and vendors who provide critical functionality to the overall system

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $145,350 – $196,650
