Tooling Engineer

Responsible for the design and development of tools, tooling and fixtures with a specialization in 3D printing for the Safran WWS Division. Work with the WWS product development teams to ensure tools, tooling and fixtures are delivered in line with program commitments as well as quality, safety and cost objectives. Work with WWS Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams to improve existing tools, tooling and fixtures. Collaborate with WWS Supply Chain on parts requiring external design or manufacture to ensure standards are followed. Responsible for defining maintenance and storage protocols applicable to new tools, tooling and fixture used in the production environment.

Additional description
• Develop 3D printing capabilities and utilization across the WWS Division for tools, tooling and fixtures.
• Work with the Design and Industrialization teams to ensure all tooling, jigs, fixtures & special gauges for each product type are designed and implemented on new products/programs.
• Coordinate the specification, design, manufacture and implementation of new tools to support program objectives of delivery, cost, quality and safety.
• Ensure tooling maintenance and storage protocol is planned and agreed for each new tool in line with standards.
• Work with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure required process capability.
• Procure tool designs and tools from qualified suppliers to achieve technical and economic objectives in line with standards.
• Manage the plan, schedule and implementation of tools, tooling and fixtures in production.
• Coordinate with Facilities to ensure that the necessary production floor space and support are available for tools, tooling and fixtures.
• Provide feedback to relevant groups for DFX, DFMEA and PFMEA as required.
• Support Departmental and Personal Objectives/Measurements.

Candidate skills & requirements
Specialized knowledge
• Design for 3D printing.
• Experience and/or knowledge of 3D printing machine commissioning, operation and maintenance
• Knowledge of tooling design, development, maintenance and storage
• Knowledge of composite manufacturing, electronics manufacturing and/or general assembly processes
• Collaboration – Establishes collaborative relationships to achieve objectives
• Communication – Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with limited direction; ability to work within and lead in a team oriented environment
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Project management experience
• Self-motivated and multi-tasker; able to level load own workload.

Education: BS in Industrial, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
Experience: 6-10 years.
Computer Skills: Proficient with Windows Operating System®, Office XP®., AutoCAD. Proficient with design software
Other Skills: Experience with airworthiness regulations & LEAN tools such as Valve Stream Mapping (VSM) “5S”. Advanced knowledge of pull systems standardized work and strong problem solving skills. Strong knowledge of primary processes like assembly, CNC machining, layup. Ability to justify tooling designs and constraints.
