The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Tourism Program Supervisor to join our Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department in the Tourism Division
Examples of Duties
- Ensures the safety and maintenance of assigned facilities; reviews and prepares work orders for Maintenance division; makes recommendations as needed
- Supervises operation of Tourism events and facilities. Manages public rental of indoor and outdoor facilities; enforces the rules and regulations of the facilities; supervises completion of contracts and work requests; checks requests and diagrams for set up
- Supervises development and writing of sponsorships, cooperative agreements, and grants for special events and programs for the division
- Oversees the operation of the Aiken County Farmers Market. Staying up to date on state farmers’ regulations; processing SNAP transactions; reviewing application process. Finding ways to grow market reach
- Supervises Tourism Division staff; Conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations; Plans, schedules, and assigns work; Instructs workers in correct methods and procedures; Trains workers in the safe operation of programs; Monitors and inspects work in progress to ensure continuity and timely completion of work; Reviews and evaluates employee performance
- Meets with staff to review and evaluate existing events; plan and implement new programs; makes recommendations regarding improvements
- Submits written bids for capital and operating budget requests and oversees bid procurement for staff within the division
- Prepares and submits annual operating and capital budget recommendations and administers funds for the division; Monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with the budget; Writes and administers grants for additional program funding
- Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other divisions, outside agencies and groups, and the general public contacted in the course of work; provides assistance when requested; represents the City of Aiken at local civic meetings; other agencies and other tourism-related groups as needed
- Oversees staff and assists as needed in promoting events; creates flyers, social media posts and press releases to publicize events; speaks at civic group functions and gives television, radio, and newspaper interviews
- Prepare reports, papers, and other documents appropriate to the division; maintains and updates records and manuals
- Attend seminars and studies written materials to maintain knowledge of current trends in the field
Minimum Qualifications
- Parks and Recreation, Project Management Business Administration or Management; from an accredited college or university and two years’ experience in facilities management and/or supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license
- Must obtain First Aid, CPR, AED & DDC-8 within 6 months of employment. (Provided by City)
- Analytical, interpersonal, and language skills necessary to perform functions of the job.

Retirement
Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
