Track design lead

Job Description

Mott MacDonald is now seeking a lead track design engineer to deliver projects in the Greater Seattle market, which is part of a broader rail capability in North America. You will be involved in alignment and track design with the ability to lay out and complete main track alignments, maintenance & storage facilities or brownfield rail upgrades with numerous crossovers, turnouts, switches etc. Experience in track design, earthworks and track drainage design will be advantageous.

Responsibilities:

  • Rail Infrastructure design including track and alignment design
  • Prepare calculations, engineering design plans, technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Engage as part of large multidisciplinary teams and review design documents for consistency and coordination
  • Engage in verbal and written communications with clients, contractors, and sub-contractors
  • Set up common data environments, utilize collaboration techniques for information management and implement Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Training team members in technical software and collaboration tools, design coordination workflows
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals

Candidate Specification

Our team of professionals provides cost-effective and innovative engineering solutions for the North American transportation and infrastructure industry with unprecedented success. We’re looking for a senior track and roadway alignment engineer to join our team to continue this traction and invite applications from candidates with:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent;
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of design and track alignment experience on light rail, heavy rail, and freight rail projects;
  • Experience in developing track structure design for direct fixation and embedded track;
  • Washington Professional Engineer license (PE) is required or ability to obtain within 12 months;
  • Proficient in using Civil 3D, and/or Bentley Rail Track, OpenRail;
  • Must be familiar with industry standards and design criteria;
  • Ability to conduct design work independently and provide guidance to junior staff;
  • Ability to build and harbor good working relationships with our business partners, suppliers, contractors, and clients;
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Salary Range: $121,000 – $170,000
