Description
The primary function of this skilled journeyman-level position is to prepare and paint the interior and exterior surfaces of Lee County buildings and structures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Finishing and texturing sheetrock, drywall repairs, and procuring paints and related supplies as required.
- Safely operating tools and equipment of the painting trade, which includes pressure washing and airless, conventional and high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment.
- Staining, varnishing and lacquering of wood doors and furniture when needed.
- Assist in other trade functions as needed.
- Ability to escort outside Contractors used by Lee County Facilities at different locations, including the Lee County Jail.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years of journeyperson-level experience in the painting and maintenance trade.
- Ability to pass a respirator physical and become respirator certified within one (1) year of hire is required.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Will be required to undergo a fingerprint based NCIC background check, and must be able to obtain security clearances from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the State’s Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report-based background check that is required for conditional offers of employment.
Supplemental Information
- Five years of journeyperson-level experience in the painting trade is preferred.
- Ability to dig and crawl in tight spaces, reach, stoop, squat, and work long hours outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Ability to work in an environment with chemical fumes and vapors.
- Ability to erect and climb ladders and scaffolding, operate mechanized lift equipment, and lift up to 60 lbs.
- Knowledge of mechanical electronics, HVAC, building automation systems, locks, welding, gear-driven devices, electrical, carpentry, and other specific skills necessary to perform the required job assignments are preferred.
- Knowledge of standard methods and tools of overall related codes, rules, and regulations plus the ability to work from blueprints and sketches is preferred.
- The work hours for this position are Tuesday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. with the ability to be on-call when scheduled, work overtime, and work flexible hours and days as needed.
