NATURE OF WORK:
Performs responsible professional, administrative work involving the management of transportation engineering and related activities for the safe and efficient utilization of roadways within the City. Responsibilities include managing, planning, and performance of the Traffic Operations group, which includes Traffic Studies, Traffic Control, and Signing & Marking subgroups. Work includes supervising and coordinating the activities of professional, technical and maintenance employees engaged in conducting operational transportation engineering studies such as safety systems design, leading and supporting safety studies, motor vehicle, bicyclist and pedestrian flow patterns, planning new or modified traffic control systems and equipment, installing and repairing traffic signals, signs and related traffic analysis and control activities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Division Manager and is reviewed through performance goals, transportation safety goals, project delivery, reports submitted, and results achieved.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in transportation or civil engineering, and four (4) of experience in transportation engineering, some of which must have been in traffic studies, signalization, signing, and pavement marking required, with at least one (1) year in an administrative or managerial capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Florida Professional Engineering (P.E.) License required. Valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
Master’s degree desired and preference for a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (P.T.O.E.) Certificate
A current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Advanced Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification is desired at hire and required within three (3) months of employment.
VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
