GENERAL PURPOSE:
Assist the Traffic Division in all efforts associated with traffic signs and markings throughout the City in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The salary range for this position is $20.34- $29.47 per hour with a hiring range of $20.34 – $24.90, depending on qualifications and experience.
Position will close to applicants on: Wednesday, 4/19/23 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Drive, operate, and maintenance of long line striping truck.
Pavement Marking:
- Install roadway pavement markings such as crosswalks, arrows, only’s, bike symbols, and long line striping throughout the city in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Responsible for maintaining all equipment associated with the painting operation.
Signs:
- Maintains repairs, installs and manufactures traffic signs within the City of Loveland right of way. This includes state highways US 34, US 287 and SH 402 maintained by the City of Loveland. Maintains and assists with GIS data based sign inventories.
- Manufacture traffic signs using a complex graphic computer based software program.
- Install traffic signs and traffic control devices in accordance with Federal, State, and City standards.
- Inspect and field reviews traffic sign installations in new subdivisions and for City and State roadway projects.
- Assists supervisor with maintaining adequate traffic sign material inventories.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist supervisor with citizen requests and concerns. May train seasonal workers. Assists with traffic signal/school flasher repair and maintenance or traffic pavement marking installations when needed. Assists with snow removal when needed and serves on-call duty for snow-plowing. Must follow instructions and complete tasks with limited supervision. Must read and understand road layout blueprints.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and citizens on a daily basis. Safely operate hand tools and hydraulic tools. Learn complex operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of striping truck including learning the computer operation and reporting software for truck. Required to learn the installation process of thermoplastic road markings including temporary traffic control.
Pavement Marking: Requires a high level of technical and mechanical experience to repair and maintain a complex computerized over the road truck mounted striping machine.
Signs: Interpret construction plans and drawings and construct traffic signs accurately in the field in all types of weather conditions and along roadways that experience heavy traffic conditions. Use personal computers for data entry into the Traffic Division work order system and traffic sign inventory. Required to learn to safely operate aerial lift devices including a bucket truck in a safe and efficient manner.

Education and/or experience:
Pavement Marking: Previous pavement marking experience preferred.
Signs: Previous work experience in traffic sign manufacturing, installation, and repair preferred.
Licensure and/or certifications
- Must possess or be able to obtain Level I International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs and Markings Certification within 24 months of hire.
- Level I IMSA Traffic Signal Certification is preferred.
- Must possess a CDL permit and be able to obtain a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess or be able to obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician or American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATTSA) Traffic Control Technician within one year and Traffic Control Supervisor certification within two years of hire.
- Must possess or be able to obtain City of Loveland Forklift Certification within 3 months of hire.
All necessary certifications and training is provided.

Signs: Computer/software- Windows; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; traffic signal software, Flexi-sign software, sign plotter/cutter, pneumatic squeeze roller, aluminum sign sheeting blanks, vinyl sheeting, Trimble Geo XH 2005 GPS equipment and related software, galvanized steel posts and anchors, hydraulic hammer/drill, aerial lift truck, digital multi-meter, telephone/two-way radio/cell phone, air compressor, generators, forklift, basic hand tools
Working conditions and physical requirements:
Installation and repair work is done outside in all types of temperatures and weather conditions while being exposed to heavy traffic, work zone traffic control, excessive noise from traffic, machines, jackhammers and other equipment. Work involves pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, and traversing topographical conditions such as steep rocky terrain. Working from ladders is generally performed at varying heights above ground and in confined spaces. Moderate physical activity required by moving, positioning and maneuvering objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and operating specialized equipment exceeding 50 pounds for extended periods of time. Typical day may be driving or rear operation of truck for 8 plus hours. Some days will include standing/walking on hot asphalt for 10 plus hours during summer. Work may involve long hours and overtime during holidays, weekends and high demand times. May require working overnight/early mornings for striping/thermoplastic operations on state highways or other projects as necessary, typically occurring for 2 to 3 weeks in early summer. Subject to call back work and must be capable of responding upon short notice. On-call duty requires ability to respond within 30 minutes to the sign shop located at 105 W. 5th St.
Signs: Traffic sign manufacturing is done inside the traffic sign shop and requires up to several hours standing and bending over a layout/assembly table.
