JOB TITLE:Trainer I

REPORTS TO: Corporate Training and Development Manager
PAY RATE: $53,250

JOB FUNCTION:Responsible for the delivery of transit operations training, retraining, and periodic refresher training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares and orders training aids and materials, utilizing the input from departments to close training gaps and identify needs. Demonstrates an ability to use new technology to enhance the employee training experience.
  2. Conducts, evaluates, monitors, and supervises the training of new hires and current employees throughout their training assignments. Is comfortable speaking and presenting in front of groups.
  3. Provides on-going training for Operators as needed or required.
  4. Schedules, oversees, and evaluates CDL, refresher, route, new equipment, customer service, collision avoidance, return-to-work, and supervisor training on an as needed basis. Conducts ride checks for new hires during their training and probationary periods.
  5. Accurately captures and records information regarding training class completion and training hours for payroll purposes. Creates training reports as requested. Creates and administers training feedback surveys for new hire classes.
  6. Tracks, monitors, evaluates, and reports student progress with training programs. Participates with Transit Operations staff in 30-60-90-day reviews.
  7. Coaches, mentors, and motivates members of the organization to achieve desired training results. Shares best practices on current training methods and techniques.
  8. Maintains a good working relationship with union representatives and ensures compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  9. Responsible for maintaining applicable certifications for self and others. Stays up to date on new training methods and techniques.
  10. Maintains a responsive, confidential, professional relationship with various security agents at the local, state and federal level.

OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  1. Must be able to work variable shifts and hours such as early morning, late night, or weekends.
  2. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field. (i.e. Business Administration, Transportation, Human Resources, Planning, Safety, Curriculum Development, or other technical fields) is preferred, but overall work experience will be considered in lieu of advanced education.

Other:

  1. Three (3) years transit operations or related experience to include at least one (1) year of experience as a bus or rail operator plus experience working in positions requiring extensive customer interactions.
  2. Must have a valid CDL with a P endorsement.
  3. Must have or obtain a National Safety Council and Operation Life Saver certification within 180 days of hire.
  4. Must successfully complete the National Transit Institute Transit Trainers Workshop within 180 days of hire.
  5. Proficient user of a PC and software applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint.
  6. Able to use two-way communications equipment.
  7. Should be able to understand, interpret and implement applicable portions of a labor agreement.
  8. Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills and be able to assimilate technically complex information and express it clearly. Understands the importance of prioritizing effectively and managing multiple tasks in an environment with ever-competing demands.
  9. Should be able to use good judgment and common sense to make decisions with minimal supervision and should be able to work independently. Demonstrates the ability to identify and understand problems and then determines the appropriate measures to solve those problems.
  10. Deals with conflict by maintaining composure, actively listening to ensure clear understanding, finding alternative resolutions, and effectively and sensitively communicating that information.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is critical. Should be comfortable working with all levels of management and should possess strong interpersonal skills.
  12. Must be a self-starter, be self-motivated with a can-do attitude and able to work independently as required as well as be a team player.
  13. Must demonstrate willingness and ability to provide world class customer service to both internal and external customers with a service-oriented attitude.
  14. Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times without exception.
  15. Requires ability to handle numerous activities at one time and move between tasks. Able to organize tasks in accordance with company and department priorities and complete them efficiently and on time and follow up as needed.
  16. Must be willing to comply with MATA’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  17. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  18. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols.

Environment:

  1. Frequent walking and standing will be required as well as sitting for periods of time plus bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing and pulling depending on the work to be accomplished.
  2. Most work will be performed in inside working conditions but should be able to tolerate changes in building environments such as with or without air conditioning or heating and
  3. Be able to tolerate moderate noise levels in some buildings. For field work, must be able to withstand exposure to weather, dust, engine fumes and tolerate noise levels ranging from moderate to noisy.
  4. May be required to lift, push, or move up to 40 lbs. Will need to be able to reach with hands and arms and finger, handle or feel.
  5. Must be able to climb on a ladder or other equipment up to heights as high as the roof of a bus.
  6. Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing.
  7. Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume through the use of spoken words. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment.
  8. Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control and accuracy such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen or for significant reading of documents and other materials.
