SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVER POSITIONS
FWCS is also actively hiring Substitute Bus Drivers for those seeking flexible schedules, morning routes only, afternoon routes only, etc. Substitute Bus Drivers are paid between $16.00-$18.00 per hour based on relevant experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Drive a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to assigned locations along designated routes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Pick up and discharge students in accordance with established time lines; observe legal and defensive driving practices, in all weather elements and road conditions.

2. Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus; report behavior issues to appropriate personnel; assure student understanding of bus rules.

3. Conduct required daily safety inspections of buses; inspect interior, exterior and engine of buses to assure safe operational condition; report mechanical malfunctions or other problems as needed.

4. Collaborate with departmental supervisor or administrator in establishing and maintaining student bus stops and transportation schedules.

5. Maintain and update routing sheets; contact parents or guardians to establish route pick- up or delivery times as assigned; notify appropriate supervisor of changes in routes.

6. Maintain buses in a clean and safe operating condition.

7. Load and unload students as required; utilize and assist students with wheelchair lifts as needed.

8. Operates a two-way radio to communicate with bus garage personnel. 9. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

For School Lift Bus Driver: Additional Duties:

1. Transports ambulatory and non-ambulatory students in accordance with established timelines; observe legal and defensive driving practices, in all weather elements and road conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is required to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent will be performing assigned duties which require bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. The incumbent will be required to lift, carry and/or push moderately heavy students weighing more than 50 pounds as assigned, and have the ability to evacuate a bus in the case of an emergency. The employee shall meet all performance standards as directed by the State of Indiana in regulations created by the School Bus Safety Committee. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to perform assigned duties. Incumbents must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State, meet State Department of Transportation physical requirements, and abstain from narcotic drug use and excessive drinking. The employee must have sufficient physical and mental abilities to operate a school bus in a safe manner.
