BASIC FUNCTION:
Organize and direct bus driver operations, activities and training functions to assure safe and timely transportation of students to and from school; coordinate communications and information to meet student transportation needs; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to: An Associate’s Degree and three years increasingly responsible bus driving or related student transportation experience. Must have strong supervisory, analytical, computer, organizational, and oral and written communication skills. Incumbents must have acquired and sustained knowledge of methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials, requirements, processes and equipment applicable to assigned field. The incumbent must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License within 90 days of securing Supervisor of Driver Operations position, Indiana State School Bus Driver Safety Certification and Lift Training Certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Serve as a liaison between school administrators, bus drivers, staff and others concerning transportation needs and activities; assure proper and timely resolution of transportation and bus driver issues and conflicts.
2. Monitor, evaluate and adjust transportation activities in response to student and District needs.
3. Train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; recommend programs and in-service training for drivers as appropriate; recommend termination and disciplinary actions; coordinate bus driver and assistant work assignments.
4. Provide technical assistance to bus drivers concerning student behavior problems and related disciplinary and remedial policies and procedures.
5. Participate in observation rides to monitor school bus drivers, provide training and assistance, and evaluate driving skills and progress; provide recommendations for resolving driver deficiencies.
6. Serve as a technical resource concerning bus driver and District transportation operations; contact schools and parents regarding student behavior, health problems and other issues as needed.
7. Coordinate bus driver meetings with school site administrators as directed.
8. Drive a bus route when a driver is absent and there are no substitutes available.
9. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.
