Summary:
Under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, the Transportation Specialist provides oversight with the day to day operations of the Transportation Department at Winchester Public Schools.
Essential Functions/Tasks:
- Manages and aids with daily Transportation Workflow Documents.
- Manages all aspects of operation and functionality for the Transportation AngelTrax Video Surveillance System.
- Responsible for the Transportation Technology Suite (Athena, Edulog, GiS, etc.) and providing daily changes and updates.
- Supports with managing, updating, changing and distributing Transportation Routing Plans.
- Supports the Transportation Department with Student Count Sheets, and monthly Pre-Trip inspections.
- Performs duties as a Substitute School Bus/Van driver whenever needed.
- Communicates directly with the bus and van drivers to maintain, coordinate, and distribute safe and efficient routes.
- Assists drivers with changes and issues during peak service times.
- Assist the department in maintaining and tracking for driver training, medical physical, and digital requirements records.
- Manages accident reporting.
- Supports Field Trip and Athletic Trip bus assignments.
- Supports McKenney Vento and Rhodes transportation routing.
- Provides daily support to School/Staff with Transportation changes.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must become proficient in the school district’s Knowledge Management System (Powerschool).
- Must exhibit exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
- Great human relations skills exhibiting patience and tact in dealing with adults and children.
- Position requires timely and accurate decision making within a fast-paced operating environment.
- Adaptive to change while applying good judgment as emergent situations often arise.
- Possess strong knowledge of automated filing and document creation systems including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Calendar)
- Minimum familiarity moving into mastery of the knowledge management system PowerSchool (student bus assignment management).
- Minimum familiarity moving into mastery of the purchase order system of record (HTE Naviline) and work order system of record (School Dude).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must have excellent communication, math, and reasoning abilities.
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting is preferred
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is preferred
Physical Demands and Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
- Sitting, standing and moving within an office environment.
- Occasional walking around and inside transportation vehicles.
- Squatting, kneeling, and bending associated with vehicle checks necessary for transportation equipment.
- Sustained time operating telephone and CB communications equipment.

Work Environment:
- Employee can anticipate 90% work indoors in a heat and cold controlled environment.
- Employee can anticipate 10% work outdoors in a vehicle operating environment on city streets.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the school board policy and administrative supervisor
Salary:
Range based on the 2023-2024 Salary Scale is $24.33 to $51.75 per hour.
